That may work, but I'm not sure. If this was an isolated incident, I'd agree with you, but Universal has a record of these kinds of things. See the "Why does my copy freeze?" threads for Serenity, Hellboy II, Death Race, The Bourne Identity, etc. Something funny is going on down at that BD manufacturing plant in Mexico that Universal uses - something systemic. Thankfully they're the only studio I know of that uses that plant - their BD discs look physically different on the bottom than all other studios'.

i hoping on it being an isolated incident since the movies havent been out all that long

if not, i'll just hope i get one thats good, since it seems not all the discs are defective

My Amazon copy did not work well...so ran out to Walmart and got a copy....that one did not play correctly either...PS-3 is up to date.
Darn. Will give Amazon another try...since Walmart had to issue a refund. They were out when i went back.

was very worried reading this thread before picking up my copy. watched them both within 2 days of purchasse and thankfully they played perfectly. no skipping/ freezing anything. running a ps3 80gb original $499 system (not the cheap 399 ones now) never had a single problem with any bd disc.

Regards,
I have the same problem with the extended/directors cut! I'm using a 60gb PS3. I have a large collection of blu Rays and this is the only one that has a problem. I've even returned it for a replacement with Amazon and the new one does the same thing. What the @#$%?

Well, I watched Riddick last night. Received the two pack from Amazon. It worked fine on my Panny BD35.

I have a Sony 550 and the movie freezes up. I just ordered a replacement from Amazon, so we shall see.

Any new info on the disc yet? (firmware updates..anyone contacted Universal)

Doesn't it have to be a bad batch since not everyone is having a problem. I haven't had a problem with any of their discs (with my 60-gig PS3) and I have Serenity, Hellboy II, Death Race, Chronicles of Riddick, Pitch Black, etc. Oh, unless you're saying some discs are coming from the plant in Mexico while some are coming from other plants. But, if they're all coming from the plant in Mexico and some are good and some are bad, then to me that says bad batch.

Edit: Actually, doesn't it mean bad batch no matter how you look at it since some are fine? That is, even if they're coming from different plants and all the ones from Mexico are bad, wouldn't it still be considered a bad batch?

With everyone screaming on the web about it, you would think Universal would respond in some manner. I hope a firmware update becomes available.

I am not worried about getting my money back for it, but I would like to just have a good copy for I actually like both movies.

I'm saying there is something wrong in whatever plant or plants that Universal uses that is causing a relatively large number of bad batches. Sure, it's just a bad batch of Riddick discs since not everyone is having the problem. But there was also a bad batch of Serenity discs. And a bad batch of Hellboy II discs. And so on. Looking at the big picture, something is going wrong that is outside the normal fail rate of other studios.
