If you're playing Iron Man on a PS3 go to your settings and see if your DRC (Dynamic Range Control) is off. Mine was on but when I turned it off there was a night and day difference for me with the audio. You want it off trust me.

Interesting. I don't have a PS3. I'm using a Panasonic BD-30 that I'm bitstreaming to my Onkyo receiver. I think I'll check the Onkyo to see if DRC was activated when playing the TrueHD track from Iron Man. It has NEVER done that before with other TrueHD tracks, though. But that would explain why the low frequencies might have been "cut off". That's the only explaination I can think of since other reviews indicated the low frequencies were good on Iron Man. Mine were completely missing.

The Happening doesn't look that great according to those screenshots, and with it being such a poor movie, I think I'm going to pass on that one.

A lot of people said The Village and Lady in the Water sucked too but I watched those and actually enjoyed them. I would like to at least give this one a rental.

I thought it looked great, I would never judge a movie by screenshots as we all know there are tons of variables

One such variable is the smoothing by the newer tvs. It can make a movie, while watching it, look spectacular, but the screen shots are not so much.

It's certainly not visually awe-inspiring, but I think it's a fairly solid transfer overall and pleasant looking for what it is - I'd probably give it a 7/10. There are a few problematic shots not blending in well with the rest of the movie and looking noticeably crappier than surrounding scenes, but I think this is due to the source footage.

As far as the movie itself goes, it falls far short of its potential and can be awkwardly mediocre at times, but I think it's being unfairly slagged. However, I'm a big fan of Shyamalan's directorial style and the off-beat performances he always seems to draw out of the actors, so I enjoyed it on those merits.

Obviously true that there are many factors that contribute to how screenshots look on the computer monitor; however, The Happening screenshots I referred to above are computer image captures which greatly minimize those factors. Those are "pure" captured images with the only significant variable being the calibration of the monitor on which you're viewing them.

The screenshots I post, on the other hand, are actual photographs of a 106" screen which introduces TONS of variables, and even though I work hard to minimize them, there will ALWAYS be more variables that affect "photo" screenshots than "computer image captures."

So, I would say: "take PHOTO screenshots with a grain of salt" but you can pretty much take computer image captures as a "true" reflection of the image.

I think that applies to MANY movies.

Thanks for the added information. I have The Happening on my Netflix list, so maybe I'll risk it for a $2 rental. Certainly not a "buy" for me though.

it's interesting to see those Favreau pics from DareDevil and compare them to say his upcoming film with Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn, where's he's been obviousily pumping iron, I've read in various articles his weight fluctuates alot
