Excellent thread! I am a big fan of the art of the screen capture. I don't believe I've worked out a good formula yet but I am just starting to experiment.

Applause to all who have tried to replicate your screen with a camera. Booo to the computer screen caps! What fun is that??

PS3 to Onkyo TX-SR805 to Sony 52XBR4 with Nikon D70s

Star Wars Clone Wars Movie

I'm not a big SW fan but I obsessed over Genndy Tartakovsky's Clone Wars animation. I was very disappointed that they didn't involve him in the movie. However, I found it to be surprisingly adequate. The movie had some beautiful color palettes and great composition.

These screen caps were pretty tough since the pause screen covers much of the onscreen image. I had to shoot during the 1/2 second moments when the frame was still.

Default Evil Dead 2

PS3 to Onkyo TX-SR805 to Sony 52XBR4 with Nikon D70s

Evil Dead 2

I was very surprised by the Evil Dead 2 Bluray. Fans of the movie, and those who have seen it in theaters, know that the movie was filmed low budget and low quality. However, on my XBR4 with motion flow set to high, Evil Dead 2 is a very fun experience! I was very impressed.

Here are a few shots. I need to stop shooting from the couch. Everything comes out too grainy. I'll spend more time experimenting with this one when time allows.

Default Tmnt

PS3 to Onkyo TX-SR805 to Sony 52XBR4 with Nikon D70s and a 60mm Macro lens. With the macro, I had to be on the other side of the room but it did a superior job of replicating reality over the standard lense.

TMNT

A very underrated relaunch of the franchise and a visually stunning film. I highly recommend it!! Excuse the multiple shots from one scene but the rooftop battle in the rain between Leonardo and Raphael is one of the best few minutes of animation I've seen in HD. I think I am happy with the way these came out!

Default Justice League : New Frontier

PS3 to Onkyo TX-SR805 to Sony 52XBR4 with Nikon D70s and a 60mm Macro lens. Some of these came out a bit grainy / fuzzy. It turns out that my camera battery was running low. I was surprised to find that the image quality was noticeably different with less juice!

Justice League : New Frontier

The New Frontier is an Eisner, Harvey, and Shuster Award-winning six-issue comic book limited series written and drawn by the amazing Darwyn Cooke and now adapted into a direct market movie from Bruce Timm and crew.

World War II is over. The Cold War has begun. The Age of the Superhero is in decline. But where are the heroes of tomorrow? From the perspective of those brave individuals who made it happen: encounter Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman, who survived the anti-hero sentiment of the Cold War, as well as eager newcomers like test pilot Hal Jordan and scientists Barry Allen and Ray Palmer, poised to become the next generation of crime fighters. All leading to the mounting threat of an alien presence on Earth, where dozens of characters from the '40s, '50s and '60s eras of DC Comics team up to defeat it.

This is a great story that was tough to adapt into a movie. They did a fair job and I would recommend this movie. However, the animation could be better. Some stills shots looked like rough sketches. I would prefer to see this team produce quality well above the work they did on the JLA TV series. It does match up with Darwyn Cooke's character designs but doesn't really duplicate his overall feel.

Default Beowulf!

PS3 to Onkyo TX-SR805 to Sony 52XBR4 with Nikon D70s and a 60mm Macro lens.

Beowulf

Like many kids, I was obsessed with Beowulf after first reading it in school. I enjoyed this movie. It matched the tone of the book and didn't pull too many punches. However, it was a pain in the ass to get a good screen shot. The movie was always moving. Almost every pause was blurred and the dark muted color palettes made it hard to get a crisp shot. I'm not too happy with the way these came out but I didn't notice any Beowulf on this thread and that is a crying shame, I say!!

Default Oldboy

PS3 to Onkyo TX-SR805 to Sony 52XBR4 with Nikon D70s and a 60mm Macro lens.

Oldboy

I know a few shots from this one have been posted already but I wanted to take a crack at it. Oldboy is an amazing and unique movie. There are more than a few memorable moments in this film and it is certainly an instant classic. If you have yet to see it, be sure to give it a try and don't you dare learn too much about it before your viewing!! Don't even look at these screen shots!!

I don't agree with the 4.5 video rating on this site. This movie was a visual mixed bag. Some shots were crisp with artful composition while others were abnormally grainy. I did my best to catch samples of both.

Default The Dark Knight

PS3 to Onkyo TX-SR805 to Sony 52XBR4 with Nikon D70s. For this one I experimented with controlling the D70s via my Macbook using Nikon Camera Control Pro 2. I was an interesting experience but I wasn't using the better lens and the images didn't match the sharpness of reality.

The Dark Knight - UPDATED!

The Dark Knight looks beautiful. However, the IMAX scenes look so amazingly rich that the 35mm scenes look a bit bland by comparison. I had a hard time getting some good shots since the pause bar ruins IMAX shots. I did my best to capture dark fast moving scenes with my limited photography skills.

Sorry for all the photos! This movie has so many amazing scenes. I could post 200 images, easy!

Default Baraka

Baraka - 15 screenshots / computer image capture / panoramic composites (link to full-res index)

Time for something a little different...

The following images (except for the first one) were produced using ICE (Microsoft Image Composite Editor). If you are not familiar with this tool, it takes multiple images of the same scene from different overlapping positions/angles and stitches them together to create a single panoramic image. Baraka has a number of nice slow pans which are ideal for the ICE tool, so I thought I'd give it a whirl. Please keep in mind that this process can introduce artifacts and anomalies into the picture.
