Welcome, i was hoping they would be more vivid too, i however just checked the R1 NTSC dvds and you soon notice how much an improvement the bluray is, no more awful banding, weird artifacts etc.

I was extremely pleased with akira, watched it again last night, the audio tracks really blow your mind too!

Read my post above, compared to the dvds its a huge improvement, however as a stand alone bluray its ok, no real pop to it, but i think it's down to the source and how the anime was actually drawn.

And yes, i got my copies 2 weeks ago, only just had a chance to watch it though!

Anyway, it looks a little bit better in motion, if your a fan i'd recommend getting it

One Piece was 4/5 for pq, really enjoyed it.

Anyway onto my next boxset which i have only just got around to watching.

Overall Picture Quality 4/5

Really good for the most part, looks a hell of alot better in motion, found it abit short but happy none the less, big improvement over the dvds.

The picture quality is very uneven. Some episodes look fine, but some look horrible. The horrible looking ones looks like they had de-noising applied, resulting in tons of banding, and there's a weird thick outline effect between two colors... hard to describe, screenshot #4 is a perfect example. Some whole episodes look like that. But the good looking episodes have non of that. There's a light layer of digital noise or something over the whole image, but there's no banding or blocking. I'd say most of the episodes on the first disc don't have this banding problem, but most of the episodes on discs 2 and 3 do have it. It's pretty random and freakin weird that only some episodes are screwed up.
