WTF?

No! No! Bad kitty!!!!

I'm not the squeamish type but I do think things are getting a bit graphic here. This is still a family site.

But seriously:

It's a film site, films are not always for children - if they were there would be hardly any films with stories of any depth or that didn't end with a happy ending.

When you start censoring because of "offensiveness" it's a horrible slippery slope, a lot of things offend different people - one thing that comes to mind is when a classical Greek statue in the House of Congress was vandalised by the government in charge at the time under George Bush because it was deemed unseemly (by a man who stated that if he danced at functions it would be against his religious beliefs - he could have just moved the location of his speaking but chose the opportunity to enforce his view): http://cellar.org/iotd.php?threadid=994 - in the end it's a question of whether you believe in freedom of expression, what values you believe in. In the case there it's certainly ironic because the action he took was more akin to fundamentalist dictatorships like Iran than what America is supposed to stand for. I may not be American but I respect America for usually standing up for peoples' rights a hell of a lot more than most countries' governments mine included.

But.... Admins, something that could be a good idea is to change the SPOILER /SPOILER tags so that they hide what is behind them, "minimised" kinda like on Windows, until you press a little "view" button? That way it would work for pictures too - I've seen it used on other forums
What I can see as a problem at the moment is that although we can put a warning of potentially offensive content before screenshots, the way that pages load means it keeps moving the scroll "jumping" so that you end up seeing the pictures anyway while they load before you can see the end of the page
(yes, I thought about the possibility of linking to the images instead, but that makes it too awkward to properly view a series of images - one click (or two to get to the big version) should be all that's needed)

that would hopefully make everyone happy, no one has to worry about seeing something they don't like and no one has to be censored

Not sure what politics have to do with this...said statue had it's covering removed (it was not vandalized) while Bush was in office in 2005...but I think we can use the MPAA's rating here as a guideline since the gore pictured here is precisely why the films in question are rated R.

I can watch whatever I want, I'm an adult. Nudity, sex, death, dismemberment, etc.

But this is *not* an adult website. It is accessible by all.

While you may feel comfortable with nine year olds looking at severed limbs and whatnot but I'm pretty sure a lot of people don't.

Exactly, these shots should really be kept to PG-13 at the most. We don't need an adult sign in to get on Blu-ray.com....yet

Please edit the above posts, I think we all know which ones. I really hate to delete a users screenshots myself.

I would concur to keep graphic images to U.S. PG-13 standards. This is an international site, however, and standards vary from country to country. But I would say that if you feel that an image is rated "R" (or for those over 18 or so), it would be wise to choose something else to post.

This website is meant to give the viewer an idea about general picture quality in movies, so there are a lot of screenshots in a movie that would accomplish that without delving into overly graphic material. That doesn't mean you can post violence or blood or images from an "R" rated movie; it just means that the images chosen should be suitable for a PG-13 audience.

Better safe than sorry, I would say.

Images removed. Its all or nothing as far as I'm concerned and I certainly have no intention of making allowances for a few over sensitive children/adults.

It's not a matter of sensitivity, it's common sense.

You think they show that imagery in (green-band) trailers and TV spots?

Nope. But you get a good idea what the movie is about/what it looks like.

You have to realize that this site is also meant for the general audience.

Your "all or nothing" attitude seems to be the oversensitive thing here.

Defaced, use whatever synonym, it was changed in a major way even if it was reversable(/ed)

So are all websites. Should all of the internet be taken offline except for government censor approved rated sites in the name of safety then?

That would be the point of the spoiler tags/"cut" buttons I mentioned earlier that exist on other forums, people would have to choose to view it after reading the warning (obviously if someone underage still chooses to view it that's a problem you can't really get around, they could do the same thing by typing in "gore" or "nudity" into google image search)

If it really bothers you that much maybe you should consider adding some kind of flag option for posts for 17 (I believe thats the age for "R"?)/18+(UK equiv, I think...) content that hides it if they have entered their profile birth date as lower, or something like that, I dunno...

it just seems a terrible pity to lose so many good films screenshots just because they don't fit in conservative america world view... (face it this is how America's film rating system is judged, nudity for example counts towards higher ratings far more than violence, unlike other democratic countries - for example non-sexual nudity here is rated a 12 (years old) usually)

It's exactly that line of thinking that brings about stuff like this though:

Good on you, I can only hope others will take a stand for freedom of expression like this, I almost removed mine straight away but I get the feeling it won't change any minds, I suppose we'll see later when more people have read

I wonder if there's any other blu-ray sites that aren't censored, this place feels rotten now...

I don't have any issue with the pics posted.... I doubt many 9 year olds are searching the screenshots to see if the blu ray quality is worth the upgrade from the dvd they bought... 9 years ago.

I smell a poll cooking.

So really, at what point do you draw the line? Are we supposed to allow screen caps from Blu-ray porn as well?

Posters should really take a lesson from the reviewers. Look through their screen caps to get an idea.

I remember a first time poster that had a big problem with one of the caps in the Rambo review, it was REMOVED.

I tend to check the site out on my PS3 and 50" plasma, and, generally, various members of my family are in the living room with me. While checking out the recent review of the movie "Rambo", I was seriously alarmed when I realized the screenshot I was looking at was showing a guy's head being exploded by Rambo, who was standing next to a decapitated body! My kids were in the room with me, as well as my wife. I had to scramble to get the image off the screen before they realized what it was.

I really enjoy the quality of the reviews as well as the great screenshots, but I ask, in the interests of the varied users of your site, that you please be mindful of any graphic or explicit content without any kind of warning. This particular instance is just as serious as showing an explicit sex scene or something. Again, please be considerate of who might have access to your website.

Please, keep up the fine work!

Does it bother me? No, I couldn't care less. You have to realize it might offend others though. There are a lot of different people that visit this website.

This is getting messy (no pun intended). I would be happy to update the guidelines on the opening page to reflect the "standard" of how graphic the images should be. However, I suspect it will be very difficult to define such an ambiguous concept. How graphic is TOO graphic?

If JasonR or MD99 would come up with some guideline, I'll be happy to update the page.

Inappropriateness is pretty easy to determine with nudity, but to define how violent, bloody, or gory is inappropriate is extremely difficult and I hate censoring material that isn't illegal because then we start regulating morality instead of legality which will vary greatly from person to person.

Important discussion, though, and I should point out that out of the thousands of images posted in this thread, VERY few would be considered "questionable" in terms of graphic content. The vast majority are fine. So, it's really just a minor problem.

Default CHCanada members?

Hey guys,

I found this forum because I was looking for serious Blu-Ray collectors...looks like I hit the jackpot. You guys are serious, I love it! I'm working with CHCanada to help them understand what their members are looking for. So I search out members and ask for insights and feedback. Since you guys are such die hard collectors I thought there may be some here. So if you are and your interested send me a message and I'll give you more details.

Also I'm not sure if anyone in here is on Twitter but if you look up "chcanada_deals". There's a 24 hour offer going on for CHCanada where you spend $23.99 & get $5 off. Even if you're not on twitter you can still look up the link. Check it out!

Thanks ricwhite for all the pictures. I've noticed in a lot of forums people discussing whether certain movies are worth upgrading to Blu-Ray. If you don't mind I'd like to post a link to this thread. They can see with their own eyes if it's better.
