Default Smallville Season 7 09/09/2008

I found Smallville Season 7 up for preorder over at Warner Bros. for $ 59.95
The Site is saying Available: 09/09/2008

http://whv.warnerbros.com/WHVPORTAL/...atType=Blu-ray

I don't know of any official announcement from WB, but I figure since it's WB's website they might know what's going on.

Right now they have 30% off going on so you can preorder it for $41.96

Yeah, Amazon has had it on preorder for a week or two now as well. Hopefully we get some sort of press release soon.

Edit: Damn, coupon code not working for me

God I hope the reports of it being a 3-Disc set are false.

I don't like the sounds of 7 episodes a disc. Encoding nightmare!

That's a point... Where's Supernatural season 3 on Blu-ray Warner???

Yeah, I already preordered mine.

Apparently, it won't have a lossless track for it, which is par for all the Smallville seasons in HD so far, and on par with Warner in general.

That has me worried as well (though your math is incorrect, as there are only 20 episodes)... especially considering the extras and the fact that not every disc is supposed to be a BD-50 (a mix of BD-25 and BD-50).

I guess we can rule out a BD-optomized encode or "lossless" audio! ;(

Sadly, it looks like we'll be waiting ANOTHER year for "Supernatural" as the DVD has been announced...

Yep, I'm aware of the shortened season this year, it's just 3 discs will mean a config of 7,7,6 (6 episodes a disc was frequent in season 6) which is faaaaaaaar too much!

I've prefer 4 discs, with a config of 5,5,5,5. Can get decent encoding then (look at Lost!)

Actually, you're forgetting one thing. So far, it appears that not every disc will be a BD-50 (I'm betting the first two are, and the third one will be the BD-25), so I'm thinking more like 8,8,4.

Oh lord, that would be teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrible! 50gb spread between 340 minutes

3 discs has got to be a mistake! I don't think it's all finalised yet, so I'm not gonna hold my breath.

We just gotta wait til July for the press-release... That is if they release it in July like they usually do.

Those can't be complete yet, not with that lousy set of extras.

I agree. Hopefully we can get Season 3 (and even Season 1 and 2) by end of year.

How compromised will the video quality be with 8 x 42mins on a 50gb disc, 4 x 42mins on 25gb?

I asked a similar question on 2themax's thread just a minute ago...

It's become obvious to me that Warner is only half in this thing. Fox put DTS HD MA on Prison Break, BV put PCM! on Lost. I'm thinking that if it's just DD, I'll buy the DVD instead.

As I said, wait for an actual press release, it's probably coming pretty soon.

Also it should be kept in mind that if this season IS DD 5.1, that WB may very well have been "spreading the wealth", compressing A/V every time a set number of episodes were completed and therefore any change in spec would require the entire redo of the front half of the season

It's also possible they started working on the set during the strike (as they might have felt there wouldn't be any more episodes that season... and for a little bit during the strike, they weren't Blu-ray exclusive).

That being said, I'm disappointed by the lack of "lossless" audio, but not too much as at least the Blu-ray version has Dolby Digital 5.1 (US DVD sets didn't have 5.1 until the sixth season on DVD).

It's very possible this is a mistake... and I'm hoping it is... but TVShowsOnDVD.com has been a VERY reliable site, and they say this information came STRAIGHT from WB. Of course, that doesn't mean WB has it straight ("The Perfect Storm" has "lossy" listed on the back cover), and "WEIRD" issues I'm HOPING is a mistake ("Justice League" in 4x3, "Birds Of Prey" in letterbox (non-anamorphic) widescreen, no "lossless" on "Batman: Gotham Knight" and other titles that deserve it, and what I hope is a mistake, "Supernatural: Season Three" in LETTERBOX (non-anamorphic) widescreen). Either way, I'd consider it a cause for concern nonetheless... but I'm going to keep hoping it's a mistake (possibly even AFTER the press release) until it's being reviews by this site (and others).
