Sadly, we will get what we get when Lucas sees fit to give us what he wants to give us, at his time, under his wishes and the versions he sees fit. Lucas has never been one to listen to the screams of his fans that MADE him who he is. Its the Lucas Way or the Milky "it" Way".
He's gotta have the biggest ego of Directors that can't even direct!! Some reason Paris Hilton came to mind ![]() but no doubt, I'll be in line for the SWS on blu! ![]() |

And if he had a huge ego, he wouldn't make appearances on Robot Chicken or allow people to make fun of him on Family Guy. He's incredibly easy going and down to earth if you follow people who know him or who have worked with him. He's just a perfectionist. And unfortunatly, he'll never see the Star Wars films as finished. As George is so fond of saying... "Films are never completed they're just abandoned." Second, many of you fans out there who follow Lucas blindly repeat his statements as if they're fact, that they completely belong to him and he'll do whatever he wants with them regardless of what the loyal fans want. Well, I've got news for you, that's not the way that film fandom and film distribution works. I mean, when coca cola changed the flavor of the drink and people didn't like it, imagine what would've happened if they'd proclaimed to the public "It's our product, not yours, we make it so we should be allowed to do whatever we want with it regardless of what all you customers want, so were not changing it back. We should have it our way". Think about it. Once a film is distributed to the mass public and once it becomes so ingrained in the culture and people's lives (especially something as popular and cultural as Star Wars) then we have a right to it just as much as the creator does. |

And yes, it would be a hassle. It would require attempting to piece back together the original versions and pay to have them restored. There's so many minor tweaks you also couldn't use seamless branching to do that. Lucas sees no reason to bother with the time and cost involved for what he considers an inferior product. Quote:
Lucas considers the original cuts to be nothing more than workprint cuts. They're not worthy of being restored and re-released. They're archival material at best, that's why they were released non-animorphic without further restoration in the 2-Disc releases a couple years ago. Honestly, he should have never even done that. Quote:
The exact same story is there on the film. Just with some tweaks to satisfy the creator. Equating it to Coca Cola doesn't exactly work in this particular case. |

Other than the altered scenes and effects, the films are still the same. There's no signifigant changes to the films that alter the narrative. It's still the hero's journey, simply with some updated effects here and there. And if Leonardo Da Vinci was still alive and felt his painting was unfinished, yes. I'm all for it. |

Sorry, have to disagree. As his friend/colleague/co-writer/director of his IJ movies, Steven Speilberg said, and I quote, in the special features of Indy 4, "We created Indiana Jones, but it belongs to the world, and now we are thier custodians."
Hear that George? Same goes for Star Wars. Last edited by dv8pdx; 10-26-2008 at 02:19 AM. |

They'll find some way to F it all up.
Ewoks in cadilacs. Han, Greedo and Chewie giving eachother "that look"...paying the barkeep for something entirely different. Yep...I can just hear the clean highly compressed guitars in the back ground with the heavy wah. I'm scared. |
