Arrow Viggo Mortensen's "The Road" Gets a Release Date

Are you kidding me?!

Quote:
After much delay, Dimension Films has finally announced a release date for the Viggo Mortensen drama/thriller "The Road," based on Cormac McCarthy's bestseller. The date is October 16th, 2009, which is almost a year after the film was originally scheduled to hit theaters.

In the movie, a father and his son walk alone through burned America. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind. It is cold enough to crack stones, and when the snow falls it is gray. The sky is dark. Their destination is the coast, although they don't know what, if anything, awaits them there. They have nothing; just a pistol to defend themselves against the lawless bands that stalk the road, the clothes they are wearing, a cart of scavenged food and each other.

Technically I am not sure if it was supposed to be released in late 2008. They finished filming in August, and generally a film spends a year in post-production, sometimes longer (and yes, sometimes shorter). They were here in town in Washington the end of July 2008 filming scenes at Mount St. Helens and then I believe the production finished sometime in early August. October 2009 doesn't seem too far out of the ordinary for a standard film, maybe buy a few months. I thought the original release date was sometime during the summer of 09 anyways, but was pushed back because of the higher profile films such as Terminator, Transformers, Harry Potter, GI Joe, etc. Not trying to compare the film to those, but from a box office stand point, makes sense not to release it during crowded months.

They were originally talking about last week of Dec 08 for Oscar season, then January, Feb now Oct. I'll bet it'll be moved once more to December for Oscar season again.
