I watched the Sony live stream. Not sure what happened to the Panasonic stream. Sony did mention Amazon UHD HDR streaming app for their Bravia line of TVs.

No mention of UHD BR players by Sony or Panasonic.

I'm going to guess the format will not make it out by Christmas. If it were I think we would have titles announced by now. I'm guessing the first titles will arrive around March

Don't see why it needs to have a xmas launch anyway. Probably better not to. It's not like it's an ideal gift. Those who buy in will be buying for themselves because they know what they want, and they'll probably have less money for xmas due to buying gifts for their family.

A Spring launch will be better, away from all the xmas noise and distractions, while giving time for people to recharge their CC's.

Summer 2016 at the VERY earliest. This thing is clearly not ready for primetime. The silence and no shows tell you everything you need to know..

I think it's due to the content side of it. It takes two to tango and the studios have shown absolutely no enthusiasm.

Totally agree with you there Bruce. Just taking wagers now as to when the Thread Title is changed

I hope I am right in some way and that the promotional and marketing push for UHD BD has not even started yet in earnest, because if this is the level of support being shown by the BDA and relevant Content Providers, we are surely looking at a dead duck here

I think the supporters of UHD Blu ray are going to be pissed if there is no UHD Blu ray players or disc's at the end of the year. Yes its been promised but it seems to me the studios and manufacturers are in no hurry to get the 4K content out there. Comcast was supposed to be coming out with a 4K set top box at the end of the year and now they are saying "Nothing has been set as of yet". My wife who works at Comcast said nothing is even being said anymore about possible 4K channels being offered! Has Comcast backed off on the idea of 4K channels for now? It sure seems that way. Maybe they are waiting to see what Directv does when it comes to broadcasting channels in 4K. To me it all says they aint sure about 4K and where its going to go and maybe now some of the manufacturers are thinking the same thing. I could be wrong.

The content's there - we know Sony have got loads of 4K stuff and Warners and Fox have also committed to HDR regrades of their recent catalogue - and there's no shortage of internet purveyors of UHD material, but the collective appetite for distributing it on disc is another matter entirely. Still, it'll be cruelly ironic if they do go ahead with online authentication because it'll inconvenience the people who ARE law-abiding while Netflix's 4K streams have already been cracked and redistributed on t' internet.

Stevie, you offering an unbiased contribution about anything concerning 4K/UHD is similar to a person referring to a gunshot wound as……acute lead poisoning.

Somewhat recently, another studio commissioned a 4K remaster (which included an HDR version) of a rather popular film from 1995.

Samsung IFA news conference tomorrow, LG on Friday. Given Samsung backing VIDITY WD Cinema Passport and M-GO, we will probably hear nothing from them about UHD BR players either. On Friday, expect LG to tout their new UHD HDR OLEDS and an announcement from Netflix rolling out their UHD HDR streaming.

Best news from IFA, so far, is the Panasonic OLED TV. LG needed competition.

The UHD Alliance will be at IFA, Some recent good news from them:

"Composed of the leading film studios, consumer electronics manufacturers, content distributors and technology companies, the UHDA also announced that its membership has nearly tripled since its formation earlier this year and that it is close to finalizing specification elements as well as certification, logo and other critical ecosystem components."
