No, when it was first announced some people here were all doom and gloom predicting nothing less than $600 and more like $1000-$1500

CNET's linking between feeds sucks. The volume between the two is all wrong.

To think that news regarding Ultra HD Blu-ray will now start coming thick and fast still seems unbelievable considering that I still know little more now than what I knew years ago.

If you think about it in a few months time we should be hearing about July's Ultra HD Blu-ray releases' followed by Augusts and so on.

I'm guessing that it is not possible which is why a standard Blu-ray is included in most Ultra HD Blu-ray releases.
I think I remember reading somewhere (might have been the official UHD BD website) that said it's mandatory for all UHD players to be able to downscale to 1080p.

The main reason standard BDs are included is so that people who haven't bought an UHD player yet can future-proof themselves by purchasing the UHD Blu-ray while still being able to watch the standard BD on their current equipment. This saves them having to double-dip.

I hope to high hell that this is right because I can see things costing a fortune and it will just be something I am making do with, so I may as well hold onto the Pioneer Kuro.

Yes, I was right - the official website (http://www.uhdbdinnumbers.com/) says:

"Ultra HD Blu-ray players will play all current Blu-ray Disc content. When connected to a current HDTV television, the player will output a standard HDTV signal. Ultra HD Blu-ray players will support existing Blu-ray media, as well as provide down conversion and HDR to SDR conversion functionality to match the connected television's capabilities"

I wonder if there will be an advert for the format itself such as the "This is DVD" adverts from DVD's launch or the "The decision is yours, to remain ordinary or be extraordinary" from Blu-ray's launch. I was hoping that the cover would be fully off by now. If I was in charge they wouldn't be arsing around like this, even if the format was supposed to remain niche.

This is what i plan on doing. Not ready to give up the kuro PQ yet.

Would be better is Sony updates the PS4 to play 4KBD.

Yes ideally I want the one that downscales/samples to the best your TV can do and not just some predetermined set number. I'm sure the Kuro is a 10bit panel so it would be a shame to drop it to 8bit.
