Dear James,
THE ABYSS: SPECIAL EDITION 4K UHD with Dolby Atmos and all the bells and whistles. It's time, man. Next year marks the 30th anniversary and a supreme deluxe edition would be a Godsend to a lot of fans, myself included. A new pristine transfer with the remastered sound mix, personally overseen by you. Dude, it's LOOOOONG overdue. We're all eager to see the new AVATAR films but there's a jewel in your crown that has gathered a lot of dust and it's time to polish it up and put it on front street. Please. You the man. ![]() P.S. And while you're kicking around the Vault, TRUE LIES is also AWOL for a Blu-ray debut. Just sayin'. |

I would rather have The Abyss and True Lies on 4K or even blu-ray over any more Avatar movies by a long shot.

There were also new special features created for the 20th anniversary which are in a vault. Lastly, that thing about the muslim terrorists was actually a bad joke by Tom Arnold. Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan has Middle Eastern terrorists in the primary story. |

All Fox has to do if put on a disclaimer message before the movie opens. It's pretty easy to do if they ever wanted to do a 4K UHD Blu-ray or Blu-ray release of True Lies.
Funny you mentioned Jack Ryan with Paramount just releasing the 4K UHD Blu-ray set of all Jack Ryan films. I don't get why The Abyss still has no Blu-ray release same with True Lies. If these aren't released by the time the Avatar sequel comes out than it's clear Fox or Cameron has the two films buried. Last edited by danny24; 09-24-2018 at 06:55 AM. |

James Cameron has final approval on the masters and according to Fox, they are waiting for him to provide it. Cameron says Fox is the problem but he did admit to stalling on approval of the final masters. |

Maybe a chance of The Abyss in 2019 according to an interview with James Cameron.

James, just sleep one less hour per night and within a month you'll have it completed. See how easy it was to find 28 hours. ![]() |

According to Empire both movies will be completed on the blu-ray format, 4K was not mentioned, for a 2019 release but as everyone has quoted here - time management is holding the process up. 30th anniversary for the Abyss and 25th anniversary for True Lies for next year....well here's hoping.

I guess at least it's on his radar.
JC just has no semblance of time. He has frittered almost two decades of his life on Avatar, he won't live forever! He needs to get his classics out on BD and 4K, all of them, you do have 28 hours, just let your assistant handle Avatar for a couple of days! |

I have some doubts we'll ever see True Lies, but I hope I'm wrong. You guys can probably Google it, but I remember reading an interview where he said (I'm paraphrasing) something to the effect that he was "embarrassed about the movie because of racial stereotypes, it makes light of a terrorist attack, including a nuke, etc...in a post Sept. 11, 2001 world."
I just have this feeling that he, as someone with left leaning politics, would rather "forget" he ever made that movie. Just a hunch. Again, I would love to be wrong. |

As for that quote, it is part of a badly delivered joke from Tom Arnold. Cameron is not embarrassed by his work (well, maybe Piranha II); he’s just too busy to sit down and approve True Lies, The Abyss, and the 4K release for Avatar. |
