More grain in the rerelease poster. LoL.
Still thinking of going to see it though. Last edited by KMFDMvsEnya; 11-14-2023 at 03:48 AM. |

I just do not get it.
Cameron is arguably the most technologically gifted filmmaker of our time, yet disrespects his work that was shot on film with poor practices like this. It's even more frustrating when you consider that similar to the T2 UHD, it at least appears to have a nice, robust color grade. But appears to be heavily undone by terrible use of DNR. It's so unnecessary. |

Those new shots look more like Alita Battle Angel than a film shot in the late '80s, I guess I'm not going to be too excited for Aliens at this point

I don't think filmmakers from the "shot on film era" like grain all that much. There's a reason that for decades and decades they kept pushing Kodak to develop finer grain film because they didn't like the look of grain and wanted to minimize it as much as possible.

Comments sections of pretty much all news articles in this site are always filled with far more complaining and demanding than actual excitement for what was announced. It's like many people just can't ever be happy. Some people seem to be perpetually jaded.
A comment like this is baffling. You really want Disney to override James Cameron's decision? This feels hypocritical considering how often people complain about directors and artists being swallowed by studios. So studios overriding directors is only bad if I like what the director is doing? "Please don't screw it up. If you screw it up, if you let Cameron turn it into the House of Wax, I'm not giving you a nickel for it. I don't care. If you can't release a quality product, you deserve to go out of business." The whole comment section is acting as if Disney didn't give us this year fantastic UHDs with fantastic restorations of Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella and The Nightmare Before Christmas. We see people there still saying that Disney doesn't care about catalog titles at all. Because vitriolic hate against literally anything related to Disney seems to be some people's favorite hobby. I guess these must be the same people who probably don't think that animated films count as real films, as those seemingly don't count as Disney caring about catalog titles. Those three films I mentioned mean nothing to these people, even though Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs is infinitely a more important cinematic landmark than The Abyss will ever be. Animation >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Live-action Yes, I'm being very bitter because I'm tired of animation not being as respected as live-action. I love animation. And there is also this comment: "Disney still sucks. They're getting all this attention and praise by announcing a title that has been on wishlists for eons. Cameron and Disney -- both DNR fanboys -- and Disney's 'actual' hope is for modern day mainstream audiences to buy this --- NOT the fanbase. Hence, they will give it the same shite presentation that they give to modern releases. Prob with crappy coverart, as well. They've not mended their ways one iota, just a cash cow move. They still hate us. Believe it." If this is a DNR-fest, all fault is with Cameron. It's like the Cinderella, Snow White and Nightmare Before Christmas restorations didn't register with this guy at all, it's like they don't exist. Grain is obvious there. |

Anything is an improvement over the DVD. Just happy to have it in 16x9, honestly.

You definitely get more detail from the ProRes version, as expected.
I shifted the hue -22 in VLC to get a less-teal look. I'm sure the 4K will be excellent. |
