After reading through this thread (and the one for Aliens, and True Lies, and…), I’m convinced that some of you don’t actually love movies or see the art of collecting physical media as a fun preservation hobby. Some of you just love complaining and nitpicking and chose to engage with film and physical media like it’s a soul crushing 9-to-5.

We get it. T2 is blasphemy. But it’s a real shame that some of you are going to immediately freak at the slightest sign of DNR on his other major releases, and proceed to trash and boycott something you’ve been wanting for literal decades, all because you’ve created this ridiculous standard of perfection essentially nothing will ever be able to reach.

Anyway, I can’t wait to own and watch these beautiful films on 4K.

There’s a difference between wanting something unf*cked and wanting something “perfect”. No one here is aksing for the latter, except you and your straw-filled buddy there. And certain parties are playing the apologist card already using spurious technical advice which is never a good sign.

But yeah, I can’t wait to see them either

Any idea what time the Cameron films are going up for pre-order today?(UK time-assuming we get them, that is!)

After waiting all these years, it'd be only natural for Disney to announce its abandoning physical media releases in the UK from January 1st 2024.

Yes. It was the official announcement. They gave the Digital date and street date for everything. And no, no one knows when exactly today that will happen for any of the retailers. We are all refreshing our browsers like good movie nerds.

Gotta understand that T2, for us celluloid lovers, traumatized us and it is ALWAYS heartbreaking to see any signs of ****ery with something originated on film. That texture, that patina is what many of us know and love, and also what makes film so magical and emotional.

T2 was a mistake (all be it of epic proportions), as the wrong transfer was used. There is an excellent transfer that apparently exists that we will more than likely see at some point in 2024 along with Terminator.

As an ardent film fan first and foremost (try saying that fast ), I enjoy the camaraderie on these boards and participating keeps me occupied throughout my workday but sometimes the nitpicking will drag me down. Despite what Tom cat says, people really do expect perfection. I'm very much looking forward to this trio of Cameron blockbusters, two of which are premiering in HD for the first time in two decades. If that's not enough for someone they need to take up a different hobby.

Assuming this trailer is reflective of the end result then the assertion that "We are finally seeing the OCN grain," may turn out to be a gross overstatement.
Looks far less aggressive than the processing in T2 4K and Avatar (2009) 4K though.

In motion, it looks excellent. And one fellow who is working right now on the authoring said as much, that grain is indeed there, etc, and Bill Hunt (which I know so many hate in here) reiterated the same thing from speaking to multiple people involved with this, True Lies, etc.

See, that's just it. As consumers we expect perfection (or very close to it), so when garbage like T2 or AG comes out, it frustrates us because it's going to be years before a new version is released, so we're stuck with this substandard release until then. Another point I made a few months ago is that home video is one of, if not the ONLY software-related fields where we don't know who's doing the mastering or what decision were made. It's frustrating.
