I think it was because the cow was going to be killed anyway as a part of a ritual and the filmmakers happened to be there to film it.

I always like that Cameron sent the BBFC a behind the scenes video to show the rats were fine. Was to no avail though.

It always baffles me the lengths these censors will go to in order to “negotiate changes” to violent films. Do they really think that losing two frames of a violent scene and quietening the sound by 4db is going to make a single bit of difference to the end product? Talk about money for old rope.

rumors of altered scene/scenes? Rats!... c'mon you need just use simple basic common sense to come to a more logical conclusion. I get the feeling some will be disappointed when the film turns out perfect, and everything I've heard suggests just that.
