Still, barring some absolute foul-up, this 4K is gonna smoke that DVD.

Yea. I hated those menus.

And regarding the sound, the crane hitting the drink was one of favorites way back then. I can't wait to here that again.

"We lost the crane! It's on it's way down to you!!!"

Pre-ordered. The only title from the upcoming batch that I will. If somehow Aliens and True Lies are complete opposites from what has been shared on this forum from the streaming versions, I'll consider them.

Never heard about any redone effects, save for what ILM needed to do to complete the wave sequence of coursh.

And yes, the OG neg is conformed to the theatrical, the SE was assembled on interpos.

Does anyone know anything about the commentaries from the special edition dvd set? They’re not listed on the back of the 4k set.

To me it's amazing the messy and sloppy home video release history this title has, from ever changing credits to audio errors (different with each version too)

This apparently is the first time literally everything has been corrected

I hope it's not ruined, it could be the most important release of the year for me.

I watched the 4K Conan last night, it was glorious. I wish The Abyss could be that good. Well, we'll know soon enough.

Yo the Conan 4K from Arrow is real good. The picture is flawless.

I saw The Abyss 4K in the theater and it looks really good. If JC wanted it to look like this I'm good.

Jake: I see you.

Neytiri: I see you.

I watched the Amazon stream back in December, which I thought looked fantastic, and I’m not expecting the 4K to look any different - or “better” if that’s what you’re thinking

Default Will there be a standalone 2K blu-ray edition?

Hello,
Apologies if this was already asked before in this thread, but I did not dig into previous posts. Will there be a separate, standalone 2K blu-ray edition of "The Abyss", or the 2K blu-ray disc will be packaged into the 4K UHD edition? I am just asking because I do not want to upgrade my blu-ray collection to 4K UHD, I want to buy the 2K blu-ray version of this movie, and the release date of the 4K UHD is 4 weeks away and I still do not see the info page of the standalone 2K blu-ray edition up here on blu-ray.com and on Amazon. Should I purchase the 4K UHD edition if I want my 2K blu-ray version, or there will be a standalone 2K blu-ray edition of the movie sometime in the (near) future?
Many thanks!

The 4k release comes bundled with the regular blu-ray. No news of a single 1080p release.

No separate Blu-ray releases have been announced at the moment.

It's a bit odd that it's still not possible to preorder The Abyss German version from Amazon Germany.

However, the official release date is Friday, April 26th: https://www.areadvd.de/news/aliens-t...vorbestellbar/

AFAIK Europeans will then have the choice between the Scandinavian, the French and the German edition.

I think with Amazon Germany, you can only pre order from the UK a couple of days before release. I believe it's been this way for a few years now.

AFAIK there’s three TCs: the original one from 1989, a second one where the only changed was the credits, and then the 2000 TC where they integrated the effects from the SE. (I left a post with all the cuts in either the OG True Lies/The Abyss thread or the new one.)

I’m unsure if they were truly attempting to revisit the theatrical cut (ala Star Wars) or whether it was for the sake of improved disc performance and better seamless branching. Either way though, the result was the same and the effects were edited.

So do the 2024 discs have the OG 1989 theatrical cut, or the 2000 TC with the enhanced effects?
They didn't "re-do" the effects for The Abyss: SE, they had to do the f/x for the finale/wave sequences which weren't completed in 1989.

Yea it seems Amazon just want to make it harder and harder to actually import stuff.
