I’ve had my preorder in with DiabolikDVD since the day it went live, so I imagine I’ll know by Friday or Saturday.

For some reason disc releases in the UK are usually on a Monday (no idea why, I think a Friday makes more sense).

I’m glad releases are usually Mondays or Tuesdays, though. It would suck having to wait through a Sunday for every release.

i live in UK and its great getting releases on a monday(it was great back in the day buying singles and albums in the shops) - it makes sense as the chart runs from start of the week - i think its more odd to release items on a tuesday or friday personally - so is this release delyaed then - it seems odd NO ONE has had a despatch of it on here ?

We don’t know yet. Even for an early shipment, today would be the earliest I’d expect to start seeing any dispatches, and possibly even tomorrow. I find it more odd that no “official” early reviews have cropped up anywhere. Now, it’s of course possible that Disney is just playing things close to the vest on these since they’re some of the most anticipated titles of all time. Some people who may not frequent sites that review digital versions may not have heard about the debacle that is the True Lies transfer yet. So maybe they want to keep some sort of embargo in place until the actual street date. Or maybe they’re delayed. But it’s awfully late for Disney to announce a delay at this point. I can’t really recall another release where it was just radio silence right up to release and THEN it was delayed…but nothing would surprise me with this title. As I’ve said since last year, I’ll believe it when I’m holding it in my hand.

From Atomic Movie Store:


Our distributor informed us that Disney has seen a delay in the Abyss, Aliens, and True Lies products distribution. The product listings have been updated to reflect the product delay. The title will not be in our distributor’s possession until March 12th or March 13th. We will not be receiving product to ship out to customers until March 15th or March 16th. Although there Is no confirmation from our distributor, we suspect this is Disney’s shift away from Physical media and the change over to Sony handling their physical media distribution is happening earlier than expected.

So they know it's coming March 12th or 13th. That's something. Whether or not it has to do with Sony this soon after the deal announcement, I don't know.

So it's delayed a week. I'm not going to get all pissy about that.

Not really related but since someone mentioned it - the Tuesday release thing came very early in the DVD era (1997) when the retailers associations wanted Tuesday to drive mid-week sales. People were already shopping on the weekends, but if you release something that some people want to own that very instant, then putting it on a Tuesday helped drive foot traffic to the physical stores.


And now back to our regularly scheduled doom posting

Most home video titles have been released on Tuesdays, at least as far back as the early 80's.
