I hope it’s okay to share but the always nice guy from Atomic has shared with me… and of course it sounds logical that pressings / distribution would cause delays esp for such highly anticipated titles.

Aliens still hasn’t arrived to the distributor yet and The Abyss and True Lies are due on Tuesday now. Aliens should show up to distribution by Monday. I hope.

Sounds like most distributors are just starting to get the stock to ship out to the stores. I’d imagine this is true for all other boutique shops.


I’m not in any hurry since knowing they look like Titanic doesn’t have me that enthusiastic.



I have a friend who pre-ordered from Disney Movie Club and hasn’t rec’d a shipping notification yet, so delays all over.

Yeah, I mean on the one hand, I’m at least heartened to know that when it does ship, it’ll come well-packaged and will get to me in one piece. I’m not upset with Diabolik specifically. What stings is seeing Amazon, of all places, promising release-day delivery for their copies. I stopped preordering movies from them a few years ago because they were virtually always late. So to have them shipping theirs out before Diabolik this time, and for titles like these, is…pretty annoying. But…we’ll get it when we get it, I suppose. I guess it being an ordeal to even get the discs in hand once they’ve been released is about par for the course for these particular movies…

I order almost everything from Amazon (when applicable), and rarely is anything ever late for me. Although these I ordered through Diabolik, because they had links up first, and they don't allow you to cancel pre-orders (except for store credit).

That is my experience with Amazon as well. I'm seeing The Abyss and True Lies scheduled for delivery Tuesday. No date yet for Aliens (and I only decided last week to pre-order it).

To be fair, I think an argument could be made (depending on your own sensitivities to the AI-tinkering and personal preferences) that The Abyss DOES look phenomenal, purist caveats aside, of course…now Aliens? Meh…but for a less discerning reviewer? Hey, the disc isn’t without its fans, so…I think jumping straight to the guy being a shill is a bit harsh. Maybe he just personally likes how it looks. And he does call out True Lies for being the worst, which it clearly is. Is that the review I would post? No. But while we’re bashing modern culture, let’s not forget that most modern of cultural tendencies to dismiss anyone with a differing opinion as a moron at best and studio plant at worst.

My layman's review:

I have a 75" Sony LED and a measly 5.1 surround system. My initial impression is that most everyone will like it. Looks great and sounds better

I just got done watching the extended version from the 4k disc, and I give it 5 stars across the board. The video looks fantastic and has a nice fine film grain throughout. Any color grade tweaks Cameron made match the aesthetic of the movie for me, so I'm fine with it and won't lose any sleep about it. If you don't like it, feel free to keep watching the crappy non-anamorphic DVD that's out there, but I'm thrilled that I can finally watch The Abyss in such fantastic quality. The atmos mix is also really enjoyable, with quite a bit of height channel usage for various water effects and the like to great effect. I'm really happy with this release and will enjoy it for many years to come. Now, I'll step aside and let all the miserable people in this forum rip it to shreds and blame it for ruining their family, marriage, and life.

I used to love Diabolik until they started sitting on orders even after stock arrives. I don't have the patience for it. I expect a shipping notification by Tuesday from Atomic. Good luck!

^ I know, but Diabolik specifically will still sit on an order even AFTER they get stock - it's just how they roll these days. I suspect it has something to do with their new label Cauldron. One-man shows are tough enough but one-man shows also running a movie label are tougher. They really need to hire someone to help fulfill regular orders.
