This is the only Cameron release I’m buying of the three new releases. I’ll wait until the smoke clears and order it for under $25 later on. I watched the digital stream and it was passable.

I like the old Aliens blu. Gritty and grainy.
I don’t care about True Lies. Saw it in theater and I’m good.

I do hope everyone gets what they want out of these releases.

Watched the SE last night with some of the guys. All I can say is 'wow!' The image and audio were spectacular. While we had to wait way too long for this to get a true widescreen disc release, at least Cameron and company gave us something that was magnificent to behold.

I could order elsewhere and end up with worse, and not have an exchange option AT ALL.
If you can play both versions of the movie on the UHD from start to finish and the disc doesn't skip or freeze, I would recommend you hold onto it. I've had two copies of the Abyss from different vendors and both came with weird scratches and nicks on the 4K. We are really starting to see very limited print runs on even popular 4K movies now. If you return it, you run the risk of not getting a new one back.

Agreed. My rule is if it plays, keep it. Even if it does the occasional slight layer change freeze like my LG, a ten second rewind or stop/restart fixes it for good. The chances of you getting another scratched disc are too high, in my experience anyway.

This. Not to get into topics we aren't supposed to discuss here, but this particular movie being problematic is a well-known issue in the ripping community right now. I'm about to send my second copy back to DiabolikDVD for file read errors. The first, I just thought maybe it was my computer drive. This second copy, I actually had the full disc rip sitting on my computer already through...other means...as a way to tell which files were erroring out, and sure enough...those same spots will not play back without freezing or glitching on my Sony X700, so...bad discs. I imagine there are a huge number of bad discs out there for this film. Man, I tell ya...it wouldn't be The Abyss without a problem like this... We finally get the discs, but...do we?? lol

Did you get Titanic too, in 3D?

You’ve gottt to be kidding me. Even of a disc freezes or skips, keep it if I rewind and playback through it with player memory able to piece it together the second go around?

Like listening to a scratched and skipping record where I have to get up in the middle of a song, lift the tonearm, and move it beyond the scratch to listen to that song.

It can get rid of the dust by spinning backward.

I don’t believe any optical disc drive spins both clockwise and counter clockwise.

If I could spin off literal scratches that’d be fantastic. Even those Arrow Dune discs which got replacements could play through the freezing scenes if ‘rewound’ and played through a second time. Playing from the beginning? No. It’s buffering like the skip protection on portable CD DiscMan’s.

Maybe I will just wait out the month and see if more come in stock, and if not I can always just reorder however many times and return for refund until I get a good one.

I can run VSO on standard BDs but I am not going to buy a new computer and a drive that reads UHDs just so I can verify that these will work. I also dont have time to watch everything on these discs within a return period. I had a UHD where the feature played fine but the longest extra feature froze and locked up the player due to a scratch. I had about five hours plus of viewing time for Dracula 1931 to make sure the reg feature, Spanish feature, and all the extras worked. This was fine, but I know from my copy of Apocalypse now, circumferential = junk disc for UHD.

I would advise against that.
You could end up playing an incantation from The Dark Book, and open a gate to hell, which all of it will break loose.

The same, mine froze up in 3 different spots. Buffed disc and got rid of 2 of the troubled areas. The third freezes and jumps 10 seconds ahead. Also at the end, go figure. Me, I’m sending this thing back until I get a perfect copy. I paid $30 for it, I’m not settling for a disc that skips or freezes anywhere in the film.

Why don’t they put the UHD in a single spot and stack the two Blu-rays?

Thankfully my UHD looks clean.

Watching this on Hulu.

Cameron really knew how to do miniatures for his stuff.

Yeah. This thing is pretty tealed up here too. Sad. Otherwise, it looked decent for the most part. God,

I've not seen the film till now, well... fully. Hippy is a shit character. Otherwise, the movie is rocking.
