I understand that some people have issues with the Cameron films on 4k. the abyss turned out the best of the bunch.. its not like t2, true lies or even predator 1.
some people can enjoy watching it and not ***** about it. Jacob |

Idk if that's been posted, yet. German review with side by side comparision of the old DVD vs BD and BD vs UHD - no language skills needed for that. In my opinion this guy knows what he is writing about and he actually suspects that The Abyss might not be true/native 4K either, because there is simply too little to no uptick in fine details when comparing the BD and UHD. Well... you can make up your own mind, but checking out his screencaps should give you some insight you might appreciate. |

My theory is that although it is native 4K, all the fine details have disappeared in the course of the poor Park Road editing with the AI tools. This is supported by the fact that Reliance Mediaworks spoke of a complete 4K pipeline at the time. https://variety.com/2011/digital/new...nd-1118035578/ Of course, it could also be that the 4K DI has since disappeared and Lightstorm only had 2K files. Just compare the screenshot of the old Reliance Mediaworks master with the screenshot of the current Blu-ray and UHD in Timo Wolters review. https://4thact.files.wordpress.com/2015/09/bababs.png https://4thact.files.wordpress.com/2015/09/babab.png |

Sure, since the same master is the basis, there shouldn't be a big difference. But the Blu-ray has very poor encoding and the 4K Blu-ray has a higher resolution. There should be significantly more fine details here.

Same. I watched today the bluray (because, I don't have a 4K installation) and the quality of picture and sound are perfect. No problem with the disc.

These discs are aging like milk with each passing day, I'm enjoying the real tech experts slowly putting out their breakdowns on why these were lazy efforts, even if it's 1v100 with the shill factor the facts will rise like cream.

Watched this film for the first time last night and thought it was lovely, though the CGI did make me laugh a bit. The image looked excellent throughout, albeit far from reference standard. The ending was, er... A choice, but, this was well-worth the $12 or so from the Disney Movie Club.
