I'll edit my post. I had thought all 3 Cameron movies had gone up for pre-order in UK.

UK Pre order is for Aliens/True Lies

Titanic already released

Only way the Abyss can get a UK UHD/Blu-ray release is if Lightstorm Entertainment agree to let disney do a separate cut version release for UK
The cut version was requested by BBFC and disney agreed doing this but Lightstorm Entertainment veoted disney doing the cut for a UK release that is why it cant get a UK release
The Abyss 4K release did not get official release announcment for UK that is why has not been available to pre order with UK retailers

The Abyss uncut version is not allowed to be released in UK (The Cinematograph Films (Animals) Act 1937)

Disney usually use same pressing for UK/Europe disc releases
A UK release would require them doing a different disc release
If Lightstorm Entertainment don't change their mind and let disney do a release of the UK cut version you won't see a UK release happen

The Abyss is a film from Lightstorm Entertainment with distribution with Fox (20th Century Studios) aka Disney

I'm in the UK and would happily watch the film again with the rat scene cut. If it doesn't come to the UK, then I don't really care as I'm not a fan of the film, but it's annoying for those who want to see the film and can't import.

Anyway, from this 2017 minutes you get the impression that the BBFC tried to have the cuts waived, but for the RSPCA advice that it would still contravene the law.

boc-minutes-16-11-17.pdf
xenophobic?

So a charity gave their opinion, does that mean the BBFC had to follow it?

If you’re not a fan of the film, why would you “happily watch the film again” in any form?

Charity. They're can come onto your land to inspect animals and under dire circumstances enter a property without permission.

They're trained to be experts in animal welfare, so it makes senses they'd be consulted in legal cases or legalities.

In the case of The Abyss they believe the animal to be cruelly treated and if the BBFC passed the content said content might be unlawful.

Croweyes1121, have you had a chance to take a closer look at the SE edit points?

I noticed at least one in which the dropped frame remains, no interpolated in between frame.

The frame after the dropped frame is the same frame that starts the pan in the TC.

Yes, Charity. They even state that they're the world's oldest charity and are registered as such.

I mean "not a fan" as in I'm not one of those people who loves the film, not as in I dislike the film (I don't).

I haven't seen it since I watched it at the cinema when it first came out, so it would be good to re-appraise, especially as I've heard the longer cut improves it.

I know they're a charity. My point was they're a bit more than a thrift shop that gives money to animal welfare.

I saw The Abyss on opening day and then went back later to watch it again and when the scene came on I charged the screen and threw a bucket of blood on it in protest.

Yeah, I’m not sure where the reports came from that all of the dropped frames had been fixed. They haven’t. I mentioned this after seeing it on 12/6. I definitely noticed a few frames still missing. NBD, but they’re there.

You know that Cinematograph (Animals) Act 1937 we were talking about earlier? Who do you think was the driving force behind its introduction?

https://api.parliament.uk/historic-h...s-animals-bill

The Measure has been promoted and introduced by the Royal Society for. the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, with the support of the National Canine Defence League, and other humanitarian societies of the country.

Of course they did. I don't mean this is a negative manner, but these organizations all have their own inherent biases and can be influenced by the politial leanings of the individuals leading them.

So why do we think they'd recommend anything different to the BBFC.

Yes, thank you. Will it have the longer cut of the film on the disc, do you know?

I don’t believe anyone here has already mentioned this, but the theatrical cut has been replaced with the SE in 4K/DV/DA in iTunes.

The film is undergoing a change in the store which is believed to be swapping the main feature to the SE and the theatrical as the iTunes extra version. At the moment it is playing the SE as both main feature and extra.

Just an FYI for those who may have purchased this digitally before the disc release.
