And even then the US DVD had the altered theatrical cut anyway which is fortunately being rectified with this release, making the first time since I think 1990 that the unaltered theatrical cut (minus the aspect ratio) was being released physically
Have we confirmed this? How are they doing it? Separate discs or seamless branching? There has to be at least four hours of unique footage between both cuts when you take into account that there were often two versions of the same scenes with different special effects. That would cause some compression issues after a while.

Two crazy questions.

1. Do we know if The Abyss, True Lies, and Aliens are getting any releases besides the standard editions on the home page? Store exclusives? Blu-rays and DVDs? I’m one of those who gets all the packaging variants of movies.

2. Has someone managed to keep track of all the 2023 and 2024 Avatar 1 and 2 releases? I lost track of them. I have all the four previous Blu-rays of Avatar 1, and the older DVDs can’t be that much harder to track down.

Seamless branching is used on both UHD and Blu-ray discs

"altered theatrical cut" is referring to the closing credits which were lengthened and enlarged on the DVD release, leading to a 145 minute runtime (I believe this was done initially for the 1996 VHS re-release)

it was confirmed to me earlier that the new streaming 4K master runs 140 minutes which means the original theatrical short credits have been restored (previously only seen on the 1990 VHS)

though afaik there weren't any differences with anything in the two versions effects wise, aside from the effects in the extra scenes

Is the Blu-ray region free? I know it says A,B,C but I don’t know if that means the 4K disc.

AFAIK, yes! The "ABC" code is only listed for the bluray, while 99,99% of 4Ks are region free "by default".

Thanks. Lately, there have been a couple of 4K discs that were locked. For example, Killers Of The Flower Moon French 4K disc.

Wow, I was NOT aware of that. Thank you!

EDIT: Is it not the Italian 4K disc? I couldn't find a french release (on this site).
Lucky for us, though, for being European, I guess!

How likely is it that the US version will stack two discs on one side of the case? That's the main reason I'm holding off until the French release.

Very likely. It's been several years since I last saw Disney/Fox use a flipper case for multi-disc sets. I'm fully expecting two discs to be stacked, most likely on the right side of the case.

Wow, the pre-order is actually cheaper in Canada than the US ($37.99 CDN$ vs $39.99 US$)

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I believe the 1990 VHS and laserdisc editions had the enlarged/lengthened credits. I owned a copy of a later VHS release (from the "Fox Selections"), and I'm pretty sure it had the original short version.

Also, the HD streaming version that's been making the rounds for the past 10 years or so definitely had the shorter credits.

Yea they definitely did, but I was referring to physical home video releases specifically

Maybe I had it switched and it was really the 1996 VHS that had the short credits (and MAYBE the full screen DVD too)

Either way, they're here to stay for the theatrical cut now which I'd say is a good thing

i wonder who will be the first person in the world to actually hold this in their hands - its going to be a miraculous moment - i would imagine(unless the release is delayed) the discs must be pressed now and getting ready for distribution - i cant put into words how excited i am for this release - i really hope we get the same menus as we had on the dvd too which were so cool

Sadly, I wouldn't count on it....
I'll be happy as long as the transfer looks good and there still some grain left....
[Show spoiler]But I don't hold my breath on the latter, either!
