My post will only make sense if you've seen Fight Club. It's all just callbacks to events or lines from the film. I saw a couple people defending it, who also seem to love it, and couldn't resist. I hope those who understood got a chuckle out of it, that's all. I thought I was clever...

Yes, I know it's a thread for The Abyss. I'm super pumped to finally upgrade my No. 1 collector's edition from Fox's awesome numbered spine DVD line. I'm pumped anytime something Fox is allowed to slip through The Mouse's fingers. I just couldn't abide the FC slander (which is in the same numbered DVD series). Anyway, took 'em long enough/hope they don't screw it up. Bring on the aliens, tidal waves and Ed Harris plus rodent friend breathing pink goo!

It's even a lot better on re-watches.

About a year ago STARZ was showing it for awhile and I could not stop re-watching the darn thing.

I found the original press interview with the cast (Ed Harris, Mary Mastrantonio, Michael Biehn) crew (Cameron and Gale Ann Hurd).

Enjoy.

Wow. Thanks for posting that.

A lot of great stuff in there—including a Mary Mastrantonio interview to boot! I didn't think any existed of her believing that she Alan Smithee-ed it, so to speak.

- Mel Gibson first choice for Ed Harris's part.

- [Ed Harris] "I think the film is really good for the first two hours. I think the last ten minutes or so is really embarrassing."
I disagree with that, but, I wonderhow he feels about the extended cut?

another interview.

good question about the extended cut about Ed.

Most people prefer the special edition.

I do remember an interview in the Starlog magazine. Not sure if it was about the release or later when she was promoting robin hood (1991). My impressions was that she preferred the special edition release.

Oh boy. Remember back in the day when Starlog magazine was our main information source for sci/fi and related material since the internet didn't exist back then? James Cameron's written back response to a fan's critical letter on ALIENS was one such unexpected gem.

It's also the first place where I found out that Arnie was about to start filming a movie called - Hunter - which later had it's name changed to something much more grabby.

You are correct. .Starlog was the internet before the internet came about.

Yeah, Starlog was the shit.
I also loved Cinafastique. Those were my two go-to's for movie stuff back in the day.

Sadly, all I ever got for the animated feature of "The Thief of Always" was from a couple pictures in an article in Cinefastique. For some reason, it never became a movie. That was back in 1994 or so. What a shame.

I used to buy Starlog a lot. Not every month though. Sometimes there were issues that was filled with stuff I wasn’t interested in so I didn’t get them.

I can't remember the last time I bought a magazine but I do miss reading them. Anybody remember Total Film? Awesome mag that came with a DVD of trailers. Only problem with magazines was the information in them was 3 months old by the time it hit newsstands and I kinda bought them mainly for the inside info on upcoming DVDs. I couldn't wait to get my hands on the latest Widescreen Review to check out their upcoming DVDs list.

Fantastic Films (a poor-mans Cinefantastique) was my favourite mag, it's heyday was between '78 - '83, they had incredible coverage of Alien, for instance.

I remember reading the batman 1989 news in Starlog.. they talked about the casting change from Sean Young to Kim Basinger.. that was old news by the time they wrote it in the magazine.
