This guy reviewed it on Kaleidescape and says audio/bass is reference quality. Atmos mix might actually be good.

Steady on, they've only had since 2006 to get it ready for Blu-ray.

Our local store got rid of their physical media section completely a couple years ago, (no movies or music) so unless we drive over an hour in either direction we have no place that sells movies or music anymore. Walmart does a bit, but their selection is mostly DVD now, last time we stepped into a Target they had like 5 titles total so we don't even bother with them!!! So yeah we're stuck buying everything online.

We're near big areas, but it's getting worse and worse for shopping, even if you just want a plain t-shirt or a pack of underwear, it's a pretty big struggle to find. Even with the population in our little area more than doubling in the last 20 years or so we're in a desert for stores you actually need/want to shop at.

I only shopped for physical media at Barnes & Noble during the biannual Criterion 50% off sales but haven't done so for a couple of years now - I prefer to have stuff delivered to me these days. I always suffered extreme sticker shock at B&N, same way I did at HMV and Virgin Megastore when they were still in the US. Everything was always full MSRP at these places. Suncoast had better prices but was also almost as expensive. The prices were their initial downfall and later exacerbated by studios pushing streaming. I miss going to brick and mortars for movies but I don't miss the lines, rude people and underpaid cashiers in bad moods.

Yeah I find stuff cheaper at other places even when they have their 50% off sales! It's just not worth it. I too miss browsing and buying in the stores. It's way more satisfying shopping that way. Finding something you weren't looking for, and yes buying it and spending more money, but still doing it online you look for what you want and buy it and leave the site. In store you look through everything.

When we do drive to stores that actually sell stuff we do tend to leave with arms full. But that's like a once a year thing since we don't want to have to drive that far just to shop.

I know there's some worry of a possible delay on these releases, and I'm sure they'll show up next Tuesday... But, it would be darkly hilarious if it was announced this weekend that these releases were delayed indefinitely or something.

My location has a Best Buy, 2 Walmarts, 2 Targets, and a B&N. Target dropped all but a small moving kiosk that has maybe 10 new-release titles on it. (I expect it to disappear soon) Walmart was for the longest time mostly DVDs, but has recently filled in a section with steelbooks and 4k, which is hopeful, though it's got many empty slots and shows no love. BB has stopped restocking and is letting its remaining titles sell out; they're almost gone. Our B&N removed their movie section years ago, though I keep going in hoping to see them add it back... yes, these are dark days for physical movie shopping in person. I miss browsing and talking to others doing the same.

With the hand over of Disney's home media distribution to Sony, there may be some shuffling of the deck chairs (not just the closing of DMC) that could affect certain titles' release schedule.

If Sony decided to dump a greater work load on the same amount of employees, there could be more delays as well.

That should be expected and come as no surprise to anyone.

Could be crazier. My Walmart stores have had the same breakdown for several years now:

-2 copies of the latest catalog titles on 4K
-10 copies of a new title on 4K
-20-30 copies of a new title on Blu-ray
-100 total 4Ks
-100-200 total Blu-rays
-Several dozen-over a hundred DVDs of The Neverending Story
-Maybe 500 other DVDs

I’ve never seen any selection so absurd in my entire life. Whoever’s in charge with buying the physical media for Walmart literally got the titles that will never sell.

It’s crazy that the stores claim it’s not selling, but make no effort to put out a selection worth buying. Criterion, Shout, Arrow, KL, and VS would make a deal with a big B&M store in a heartbeat. They were chock full of the Avatar movies though, so maybe that means they’ll have the three films this go-round.

My DMC order is "processing", but not "on hold" like before. Possible sign?

They might scrap the physical release at this point and just keep it digital. More thematic that way

If the US release date doesn’t slip then there is going to be huge demand for that region’s release so getting hold of one maybe tricky if say you are trying to import one.
