Not "right now," but inevitably. And Sony has been producing a lot of steelbooks lately so that makes it even more likely.

If Disney has to pay for the steelbook production then I'm sure there won't be a flood of new steel releases.

Is there some reason you like pointing this out? You sent me a private message saying the same thing a while back. I never claimed that my version was perfect. It was a fanedit, nothing more. I also did that edit back in 2018, and didn’t know a lot about sound mixing that I do now. It was never intended to be an official release — which is why it reflects some personal preferences of mine, like the Lindsey take near the end (and yes, I still hate the SE take). I never intended it to be a direct copy of the SE. I also never claimed that I was the first to encounter these audio issues. I just said that I noticed them at my screening in December and let Bill know that they were (still) an issue. All of the problems you detailed in your post (sans presenting the film in open-matte, which ain’t gonna happen) have been verified to be corrected on the new edition, and that’s all that matters. I’m thrilled that they’ve been addressed, so let’s just leave it at that.

Sorry you “don’t want to hear about” these things. Maybe don’t frequent a forum dedicated to discussing the film.

First Youtuber review of The Abyss from In Search of Physical Media. Just be prepared to endure LOTS of sub begging and link plugging

I purposely don't subscribe or click on purchase links if people are asking aggressively. It's very off-putting.

I swore off that guy’s channel a while back when he got super nasty toward people who questioned his assertions about Titanic being the end all, be all of 4K transfers. He got incredibly childish about it. Ditto with FilmsAtHome. Guy’s a jerk IRL, so I just don’t watch anymore. Not that there was much good content there to begin with…

You mean you don’t see value in his comparison photos that are shrunk down to half screen and then compressed over YouTube?? LOL But agreed…the guy is a joke.

Eek!

I'll stick with my method of heat gun to loosen up the adhesive and then peel off. Any approach using liquid and pressure I try to avoid.

Different strokes, I guess.

He claims to own a bunch of calibrated equipment where he does all his "testing", which is fine, and he does suggest people watch his videos on a 4K TV as opposed to a laptop or cell phone, which makes sense but I sorta agree these people aren't 100% reliable. This guy will say if something doesn't look good so he's not a total shill. It's the 'tubers who never find fault with anything that I have issues with.

So I watched the Video assessment part and the 4K disc looks a bit brighter than the digital stream in his comparison so that alone is a good sign. Also sounds like audiophiles are in for a treat. So far, based on his comments, I'm happy.

This was my faithful method going back to the 80s. It removes glue, pitch, sap, and stickies from hands, clothes, items... all of it without damage. The only issue is the smell lingers. Recent years have proven hand sanitizer to be a great and, especially post-pandemic, readily accessible alternative. It works almost as well (the alcohol in it) and dissipates cleanly without the lingering petroleum smell.

This is an excellent purpose-made solution, though not as accessible for some.

"Make sure to watch at full screen". Yeah, so you can see the postage stamp-sized images.

I also love that the guy holds up the case the whole time (WHY do all reviewers do this?) while having a graphic of the very same cover next to his hand.

After watching Footloose it's clear that the guy doesn't know what he's talking about. I said before that I could do a far better job if I had the time.

But what bothers me the most is that people are canceling their preorders because of this guy. Their loss, but it doesn't help the hobby either.

You mean because Disney's already flooding us with a bunch of new steelbooks (Mandalorian seasons 1 and 2, WandaVision, Andor, Moon Knight, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Wish, the entire line of 100 Celebration steels, most of the MCU, etc), so they therefore won't want to pay for 3 additional steelbooks?

That's my story too!! Then add the numerous catalog releases which are no longer generally available, so that's pushing the secondary market to very high prices...

Yeah, I jumped ship (pun intended) around that time too. Dude clearly puts work into his videos but I really got tired of his frequent whining online when people don't agree with him. He's talked about repeatedly deleting messages from those who follow him and leave what he considers bad comments, moans about how much works he puts in to find all the negative comments, etc. Add all the emojis like he's 12, slapping his mug onto everything and the aggressive plugging and I was out.
