Special Edition, for sure. The Theatrical edition is great, but falls flat at the end because you go "that's it?".

My experience watching The Abyss here, was similar to watching the 4K stream. I found myself completely absorbed in the film, as opposed to being distracted by video related anomalies, probably less so. Its 4K rendering here is as close to a quality Ultra HD presentation as you would hope, given the circumstances. The same question comes to mind, would I have preferred a faithful remastering? You’re damn right. However, I have to admit that I am smitten with seeing one of my favorite Cameron films in 4K on physical media. For those that didn’t care for overall quality of the 4K Digital version, you’re likely to feel that this doesn’t measure up either. For everyone else, you’re sure to be pleased with this release.

Definitely the Extended cut, it is a long but complete movie. The ending of the theatrical cut doesn't make sense. For me, this is the only movie I have ever seen where the deleted scenes COMPLETELY changed the messaging and purpose of the movie. It was unbelievable that they had to cut them out just for run time.

[edit] just read that at the time the studio did not want to spend more money for the additional special effects and scenes, so the decision was made to go with what they had. I didn't know that, but seems pretty obvious in retrospect.

during that time period movies were a certain length.. Cameron had that issue with aliens.. dances with wolves changed that a year later with films being long again.

Anyone know what's going on with the Amazon pre-orders of this? I ordered mine a while ago and it still says "We will email you when we have an estimated delivery date."

I'd try to reorder it and cancel your current order. Mine still says scheduled to arrive on Tuesday.

Don't cancel your order. Don't forget there are over 10 K pre orders. You will be put at the end the queue ;-( if you place a new order.

I kept my order I placed last month and it still has no delivery date. (My credit card was not charged.). So it does not look good.

I tried to submit another order. But before accepting I got this message:

At least you got an estimated delivery date. I've got nothing so far. This might be another of those situations where I'll have to cancel the pre-order and re-order it to get it faster.

Why are you waiting for reviews that suits you ?
Watch the UHD and make your own opinion. Some people will like what did Cameron, some other don't...
Since the announcement of these three films, there is a crusade from some who seems to just want to read or hear very bad things about these remaster... And if people disagree, they are just dumb...
