TBF, I think that part's automated.

A refreshing change from what had gone before and yes I noticed that. Perhaps he is dipping his toes in to the Dark Side to see how it feels. The Dark Side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.

I’m looking forward to catching the Abyss. Forewarned is forearmed and expectations is the root of all heartache so everything is in check. It seems the best of a bad bunch.

My interest in Aliens was piqued from what your wrote, it’s obviously got issues but arguably is going to be the best (subjective) of what is available. Did it make you feel dirty?

It made me feel like a dirty bird, yes. But the Blu-ray is still there, and it's great, so I can alternate between them on future viewing.

Abyss does look rather nice in general tho. Still got some weirdness, but the good far outweighs the relatively small amount of bad.

How is the HDR grade? Does it expand the hightlights or did Cameron take the AWOW approach to it?

Edit: talking about Aliens here, not The Abuse!

As with Titanic, they're working from a 10+ year old master that was designed for the SDR space so it's not doing anything drastic...and yet there is a tiny little bit of highlight expansion here and there in Aliens, more so than in Titanic I'd say. But all of Cameron's 'HDR' grades are of a piece, there's a few hundred nits pushed into the highlights while minimally expanding them, while average brightness is raised quite a bit. And the latter part is what makes people think they're so amazing, I couldn't believe the gushing prose I was reading re: Titanic's 'HDR' grade, but that's all you have to do: make it look brighter than SDR and it doesn't matter if it's got any real HDR or not, it'll still impress. Aliens' gamma has been lowered quite a bit tho, the BD wasn't blacker than black to begin with but looked decently dense, the 4K is noticeably lighter.

I pre-ordered all three new Cameron 4K UHD titles (The Abyss, Aliens, True Lies) on 1/30/24 from Disney Movie Club and all three say processing one day before the release date. Usually, Disney Movie Club gets pre-orders out before release day. I think maybe these titles are delayed.

Well there's always somebody new in here that doesn't know how the rating system works yet. Why don't they have a small explanation of how their ratings scale works between 1080p and 4k at the top of each review under the image quality section? How are people supposed to know this if they don't explain it?

Mine says the same. I don't think there will be a delay, though. Reviewers all received their copies.

Yeah, I love Diabolik but they are slow slow slow to ship these days.

Let us know when you’ve checked out The Abyss more closely.

The video review section on this site for this film is a wall of text. I can't read that. Seriously, break that up into two paragraphs.

I'm really surprised my order from Diabolik isn't even in the shipping stage yet. Ordered all 3 on 1/24. Looks I like won't be receiving them on the 12th and I usually receive my orders from them next day because I'm close. Customers who live further away are really going to be waiting.
