It’s 4K UHD release not a regular Blu-ray
Amazon USA as seller their price was $24.99 but they are sold out at the moment.

The listing with price $44.44 on Amazon is from a third party seller selling a used edition.

Just finished the theatrical cut (first time watch). I didn’t think the PQ was bad at all, but knowing about how it was restored kinda dampered my feelings.

Also, while my digital copy code didn’t work (yet), at least I was able to redeem it for Disney Movie Insiders points, which was nice.

Ok. Is The Abyss on 4K a purist's dream come true? Probably not. Does this movie look pretty damn good as is on 4K? Most definitely. I haven't checked out True Lies yet, and of course my Aliens order is delayed by a week. So far so good though.

Not to rub a little salt into anyone's wounds, but to rub buckets of sea salt in.... Walmart really came through for me fine this time. I actually got it back on Sunday (yes, Sunday delivery).

But to rub tons of salt into my own wounds.... yeah right as it hits 58:00 it bogs down. I will try to rip it to disc and see if a bit perfect copy is possible (I can at least play it smoothly from HD then) but yeah straight from disc it is not playable there, not getting pixellation mess but the drive just gronks like mad and it takes like 2-4 seconds to load each frame properly when it should take 1/24th of a second. Is it jut me or did they perhaps add more DNR for home than for theatrical 4k DCP re-release? I could swear less grain now?

EDIT: after ripping to HD it all plays back fine, not sure what the direct playback from disc issue at 58:00 was. And the slightly lesser grain now and then on some things, if real, might just be due to home video compression not always doing it as well as frame by frame DCP compression rather than any added new processing since the DCP.

So what's going on with AMZ? They have just been released and there's already no stock at all?! I pre-ordered these months ago

they probably sold out of pre-orders and are waiting for more to be allocated, i expect it won't be long before it goes up for sale again.

if you already pre-ordered you are good

That is absurd. No one has ever gotten "what they want" from Cameron. I don't think he has gotten anything right yet.

Because he is taking money for it. People who visit this website are lucky that at least know what to expect, most buyers only find out after inserting the disc.

A director is not here to give people what they want. Abyss and all the others are HIS movies, HIS creation. You have the right to not agree with his choices, to not like his movies, ... But no, he does not have to give what you want, because what you want is not what I want, or what others here want...

Hey guys! I've got a dumb question for you all so go easy on me ok... I too pre-ordered all 3 JC films on day one with Amazon... but of coarse No Stock so I too am in the waiting queue... So my dumb question is; Does this mean that the next shipment of stock will actually be classed as the 'second pressing' and thus, will not have the Slip Covers included?!!! (As I said... go easy)

Mine arrives today from Amazon.

True likes and Aliens say they arrive this weekend but you never know anything about where you really are with Amazon until it's shipped with tracking.

Hard to tell but it is possible. I had more luck getting late deliveries or orders with slipcovers from other retailers than from Amazon. When I buy from Amazon I just don't expect them, and...many times I've pre ordered -very early- movies with them but they don't ship them to me until several weeks after the movie was released. I don't know if they do that to us in AU only or it is the luck of the draw but I am talking very early preorders.
