Pretty easy find here in Canada, just picked up a copy this morning at Walmart, $10 cheaper than what it was on Amazon

UHD vs MA stream:

As far as I can tell the stream appears more detailed than the disc (or I guess depends on the area).
Note my screenshots do not take Dolby Vision into account.

But he definitely should get his eyes checked first, and then go back to Lowry for his restorations instead of relying on AI.

Stuff like the T2, the first Avatar and True Lies remasters is truly unwatchable, REGARDLESS of what his intentions were.

THAT'S THE POINT.
The point is : you don't like it, don't buy it. Nobody force you to do it. I don't like the work on True Lies, I don't buy it. That's all. No need to cry all over the place, and to ask Cameron what you want. He doesn't care and doesn't read your messages.
Just don't use your credit card to give the message.

Not that I’m viewing these under ideal conditions, but in that last comparison I feel like I’m seeing more nuanced detail in the iris of her eye on the UHD.

Agree I mean they had listed they sold 10k copies of each in the last month.I don’t think people realize they have a lot of demand to meet. Disney is the one responsible for getting the stock to retailers. Disney should have told retailers to cut of pre orders because they didn’t have stock.

Thanks for sharing. From my extensive comparisons in the past of 4K MA vs. BD PQ, it seems MA applies some sort-of encoding tuning or processing filter that adds extra sharpening, rather than actual detail somehow preserved beyond what UHD BD has. This is quite evident with the recent movie The Creator, but you also see significant compression/encoding artifacts when MA's bitrate cannot keep up, so maybe try and look for frames with a lot of movement or underwater scenes, you may see inferior PQ from MA in that case. Cheers!

Yeah, I picked up True Lies and The Abyss on Monday because my local Wal-Mart reliably puts things out early because they either don't care or don't know about official release dates. They didn't have Aliens, but yesterday I snagged a copy of Aliens at Sunrise Records. It was a few dollars more than the pittance Wal-Mart was charging (comparatively), but still decently priced for Sunrise. Cheaper than my local Best Buy, which also has all three of these in stock (although for a full $10 each more than Wal-Mart was charging).

Having the title printed in both English and French looks cluttered to me. But to get them at decent prices and to be able to judge these controversial transfers with my own eyes without having to wait through the frustrating delays makes it an easy compromise. (Plus, they've got shiny slipcovers, which I wasn't expecting after the Canadian release of Titanic didn't get one.)

I'm used to our cluttered slips by now, nice to get crisp ones to choose from

I'm fine with my Aliens blu, I really wanted Abyss and TL since they haven't had new discs in decades

Still waiting on my Amazon order,

I ordered The Abyss from Amazon in early February and it still currently says "Not yet shipped. We will email you when we have an estimated delivery date."

I haven't usually had issues in the past with Amazon pre-orders not making the release date. Going forward, I may have to re-think this when ordering big titles that generate a lot of interest.

I pre-ordered from Amazon (Canada) in January 27 and I have the same message from them. Got them in chat last night and they said it’s because my fulfillment Center hasn’t received them. Basically it sounds like it doesn’t matter when you pre-ordered. Some pre-orders are just lucky and based on whether or not your closest centre got them. Blah.

Basically. I mean, we all know there isn't just one big central amazon warehouse. Allotments go to different areas, shipments are sent from there, etc etc. It's both boon and bane depending on the product and the time.

The reality, as we keep learning as more details slip out, is that this was vastly underproduced and they were trying to ship as much as they could right up to the last minute to distributors. And that has its own supply chain issues that create delays or differences in what gets out where and when.

I was pretty sure that these were going to sell like gangbusters. Once the streaming versions were released, I made the decision right away to pre-order the one I wanted to own ASAP. The moment I found the link, my pre-order of THE ABYSS already said "500+ ordered in the last month". A few days later, it said 5000+ and I was like, "Woah, even MORE than I expected." After 10,000+ ordered within a week or so, I realized that there could possibly be supply issues.
I was ready to expect delayed delivery by the first few days of February. The numbers just kept going up. Which was fine by me. I've waited a year for a hand-built headphone amp to be delivered. A movie I've seen dozens of times could wait a little longer. No rush.

There seem to be some rumblings online that the subtitles on the 4k disc drift out of sync during the film (possibly caused by seamless branching).

Cold anyone who's actually received the disc skip about an hour into the SE and check?

Didn't order Aliens, as I already have the box set. True Lies is "scheduled" to be delivered Monday and The Abyss is on indefinite hold, I guess. "We will email you when we have an estimated delivery date."

Looks like they vastly underestimated the popularity of these and physical media.
