No, neither valid nor OK in any officious or germane manner. But these days, it may be rather intelligent, as in "try before you get burned" by bad transfers, altered 'reimagined' content, etc.
We're living in a time when savviness on the part of consumers - who speak with their wallets - is necessary and important. Sometimes that world delves into the clandestine or gray areas. These "modernized" UHD releases of films we've loved for 40 years fall into that paradigm. As I said, before plonking down $150 for the three Cameron films sight unseen, it might pay to do a little diligent research first - beyond apologist reviews of people who've been given free copies of the films to "review". One may then be secure in the knowledge whether he wants to stick with homemade bootlegged versions or even stay with the 25-year-old extant official DVD releases, because they look more in the order of what was released theatrically and filmed on film. An unpopular, beguiling perspective, but an intriguing one all the same. |

Well this is interesting. I preordered The Abyss on Amazon on February 2 and am still waiting for them to tell me that it's coming. Their last note to me was that my order was delayed and they would cancel it if I didn't respond saying that I was OK with the delay and to keep the order in place. On a lark, I went to Walmart and ordered the film yesterday morning. This morning, Walmart notified me that the film shipped today, less than 24 hours after I put my order in. So I have to ask, what's up with Amazon?

Did Disney use Super Glue to put this "New to 4K Ultra HD" sticker on? anyone who wants a clean mint slipcover is gonna need to be a goddamn wizard to get this off without a problem. Stickers like this as so dumb and pointless. Yea, no shit it's new to 4K, why do you think I'm buying it?

never mind the sticker least of my worries
the abyss 4k worthless as the slipcover is , now tied to the cat scratching post as that is all good for with some cat nip spray on it and little extra hair for ed , my cat Bear liked giving it a bear-hug laserdisc or dvd version only not that 4k all the waiting and cameron ends up trolling with AI DNR and cheap fake atmos upmix near field , really now it never changes , what major disappointment ![]() |

I just watched this. I don’t care what anyone says, I thought it looked incredible. Should AI be used on all movies? No. But if this is the look Cameron wants in his movies, go for it. I think it works. Oh and the movie, which I haven’t seen in about a decade, is even better than I remember.

Got mine at a V-Stock, paid $39 a piece for Abyss and Aliens, heard about all the scalping prices, Ebay and Amazon should patrol their sellers when it involves new releases and state that accounts which sell items less than a year old can not sell beyond a 10% increase on original MSRP. It’s sad that people keep theses crooks in business paying them insane prices when patience would get them a copy on the cheep later down the line.
I viewed my copy of the Abyss and ignoring the fact that i overall love the movie in general, The picture quality does look infinity better than before but there is something definitely off about the image, maybe one day they can fix that AI tech but right now it makes everything look slightly unnatural…i did think the shots of the open sea and the ripples of the water make the AI tinkering very visible…reminds me of looking at a Micheal Turner pencil sketch of water turned to real life. |
