If by "filmic" you mean they run at 24fps then yeah, they've still got that going for them, but in every other sense Aliens is about as "filmic" as an HD camcorder.

I’m glad I’m not the one one! It’s weird too, cause usually Disney stickers peel off super easy.

Oh dear, Evri - Best of luck...

As an aside and hopefully useful to someone shipping to UK via DHL;

Short version: DHL handed over final delivery to Evri, but I didn't know [wasn't told] and couldn't track the final delivery to the house [and the DHL C.S. person I spoke to didn't know this either.]

Long version: DHL Blu-ray from the US, fully tracked etc. Tracking showed delivered, but no parcel AND try speaking to a real person at DHL... I eventually got through to a real person, more by luck than skill. Turns out the last stage of delivery was passed to Evri, but there was no information from DHL to this fact, apparently one of the "DHL" reference numbers was an Evri reference - The very helpful DHL dude didn't know either but worked it out. At which point putting an Evri tracking number in [on Evri's site] found where the parcel was left - in the gas meter box for some reason, we had already checked the usual places for parcels, this was a first.
Trouble could have been easily avoided if DHL tracking stated "This tracking number is for this courier and enter it into their site"? Simple.

Default Scalpers

Although I dislike scalpers, I also blame the buyers - if no one indulged them they would die out - The Abyss is currently on Amazon for $119.99...

Mine was delivered yesterday from Diabolik. That sticker is no joke to get off the slip but I managed. I only skimmed through certain scenes and to me it looks great. Looking forward to watching it soon. Made me think back to the Special Edition laserdisc, would be cool to have the THX logo before the opening.

Do we know if the 2.0 tracks on these new discs are the original Dolby stereo tracks or a fold down of the Atmos or previous 5.1 tracks?

Just pretend it’s the latest superhero movie. Those really are shot with HD video cameras and no one ever complains they don’t look filmic

Come on, it’s fine if you like them but to claim you don’t understand what people are complaining about is just being argumentative for the sake of it. The Abyss isn’t terrible but Aliens and True Lies do not look “filmic,” that was the point of how JC remastered them.

I think certain people are confusing the words digital and filmic, just because something moves on your TV doesn't make it the latter

Gave this a spin last night (blind buy for me - watched the extended version on a JVC 4K projector + Lumagen Radiance Pro at 124" on Stewart ST100 scope screen sitting about 10 feet back). As far as the positives: detail can be absolutely striking at times. Maybe some of its more just more 'apparent' with the AI processing, but it did work pretty good when it worked. But there are some really nice, deep blacks and with the application of HDR, you get some very impressive dimension at times along that detail especially in the sub. Thankfully there is often a little bit of texture in place as well. For the color, on its own I thought it looked very good too. The negatives? The lack of grain and overly smoothed look in some scenes. They just look too processed for my liking. I noticed it the most earlier in the movie when they were outside on the ship, however, there were some other scenes but usually more rare and less of an issue by comparison. But I am now more nervous now about Aliens and True Lies. lol The audio felt adequate enough. I think almost everyone will be fine with the disc all things considered.

There’s some real John Doe levels of derangement going on in this thread. Tying a slipcover up to a scratching post? Hahaha.

I popped in my copy of this last night since I wanted to check on that breakup that people have seen at the 58 minute mark and it worked fine thankfully - at least on the special edition side

There's definitely an adjustment in viewing this - I haven't seen it since the DVD and back when my biggest screen was a 40" set from Toshiba back in probably 2002. The brief area I saw with the flooding going on within the interior definitely looked like it was taken from something in the present with how clear it is while the exteriors felt more like what I remember from the original.

A lot of people are going to have very different views of how this looks in the end.

It gave me a chuckle. Glad to know his cats didn't find The Abyss too offensive. I imagine the Aliens slip will get torn to shreds and the True Lies slip will be kitty litter. It will sum up these releases nicely

They also do not look "video-y" as many are suggesting. The majority of those protesting don't even have the disc(s) in-hand. I just got done watching Aliens and I was shocked at how good it looked. It's far from ideal but I thought it looked fairly spectacular and not once during the 2:15 running time did I go "Ugh, this looks terrible". In fact, I really enjoyed revisiting the film for what must be the 10th time since DVD. In case anyone is wondering, my equipment consists of a professionally calibrated LG C1 OLED and Panny UB820. Can't wait for The Abyss to arrive in a few days. I'm lowering my expectations somewhat for True Lies and that's only because of all the negativity around here.

Not sure why "video-y" is in quotes A quick search of the forum shows, your post as the only one using it (and now mine) in 3 threads to which you're referring. Presumably you can't argue against them looking faux digital Unfortunately they don't look authentic to any well known image capture method

I didn't think I needed to pre-order so got caught up in this, but I ordered one yesterday from them and I have a tracking number for FedEx with an estimated Tuesday arrival.
Arrived ahead of schedule today. Dumb slipcover sticker and all.

I like stickers. I keep them on all my slipcovers/ Blu-ray cases. I think it gives it all an authentic look. The bigger the better. And bonus points for covering up the title/ logo. Bravo Disney, this is how it should be done.

Has anyone gotten their order from Disney Movie Club yet since they provided no tracking info?
