But this IS a very special case, because I know for a fact that the QC team was REPEATEDLY TOLD about this and still failed to correct it, so yes I’m pissed. Also, this isn’t a simple remux job, either. The SE is branched. Putting all the pieces back together without mucking up the DV and everything else would be a nightmare. I might be able to do it, but I’m not sure. But more likely, I’m now stuck with watching the film on BD with the correct audio or on 4K with the errors (or in 2.0). |

EDIT: Sorry; Croweyes beat me to it. ![]() My Cameron Trio came in this weekend (faster than expected from Disney Movie Club). With all the to-do about the AI processing, etc., I will say that from a cursory glance (and only that), The Abyss does seem to be the least egregious of the three. Maybe it's because it's never been presented on home video in anywhere near this quality before and the next best version isn't in circulation anymore (and was never released on disc), or maybe because it's always had a fairly "processed" look to it (shot-for-shot, it might be the bluest, tealest film Cameron has ever made), but I think I'll be okay with this release. Is the 2.0 the original theatrical mix, or is it possibly a downmix of the 5.1 mix that’s on the Blu-ray?

Errors, plural. There’s the pitch change as the ark rises and the awkward fade where a section of music repeats during the added shot of the crew looking out over the ark right near the end. I believe there’s also another one where a portion of Willin’ is played over again directly after the crew sings it as Lindsey is descending toward deepcore.

![]() And to flip the tables even more, I'm so pleased that the 2.0 doesn't have the errors because no Atmos = no problemo for me, I'll just watch it with the 2.0 so the botched Atmos doesn't matter a jot. |

Except that I’ve literally never said these things “didn’t bother me”, just that I know how to correct them most of the time and have admittedly encouraged others to learn how to do the same. I always understood the frustration, and have never intended to be dismissive of it. But again, in this particular case, it isn’t a matter of an error sneaking through. It was well-documented and brought to the attention of TPTB far in advance of this disc. That’s what upsets me. I actually put my money where my mouth was and made every attempt to get this fixed FOR EVERYONE before the discs were made. There’s simply no excuse for it to STILL be an issue. What’s more, they were clearly aware of the problem because the BD’s 5.1 track was corrected properly. This wasn’t an oversight. It was sheer laziness.

there's a consistently growing list of screwed up Atmos/X tracks and it looks like this one will be an addition to that honestly I was legitimately expecting the 2.0 track to be a downmix but I'm so f-cking glad it's not |

Though these errors have nothing to do with Atmos per se, they were grandfathered in from the original 5.1 prepared for the DVD and while Foxney got to the 5.1 in time they clearly didn't bovver with the Atmos. I wonder if the DD 5.1 backup on the Atmos has the errors or is the corrected 5.1? Worth checking, though it's 99% likely it's just a downmix of the Atmos. Stereo was a "gimmick" in the '60s, and the list goes on. I think Atmos is amazing if done right. There are bad Atmos mixes and there are bad stereo and 5.1 mixes. |

To me at least it's moreso a gimmick when remixing older movies to it, I don't see it as necessary personally especially if the original mix was in fact mono

You should watch some Star Trek TOS in 5.1. The fact that they had all the stems available and were able to pull off *79* remixes is pretty impressive.
