I keep my Sony 500 CD Recorder in good condition just so I can make a two or three or four track song on a CD come out as one track and able to burn it to another CD without the silent gaps in between tracks... perfect Beatles or Pink Floyd tracks, anyone ?


QUESTION FOR YOU PEOPLE WITH GREAT INFORMATION REGARDING THE ABYSS (because trying to read everything written and all the various thoughts about it is... confusing).

Please, in detail, respond to the following:

- What audio track has the issue with incorrect moments of the words missing or not coming out correctly according to the script ?
And then, what audio tracks are correct and perfect ?
Of course, specify which version you're referring to: theater or special extended version.

Also, please list the time the issue(s) take place so it can be easily found by all readers what you're talking about.

If there's a music issue, please note that as well.

Again, please be specific with the details of when, where, which version, etc.

PS: and yes, some people are experiencing playback issues, and it's usually the same old issue that continues to come up - branching!
You may not experience an issue, but remember, there are a hundred or more different players on the market all over the world, and not everyone plays by the same rules / guidelines / protocols / software / etc.

And another issue are the places that manufacture / produce the discs... some don't care if they're clean, some don't care if they follow guidelines in reproducing discs, etc. (and I've seen a few plants that are very dirty and frankly, a joke, and the big companies use them because it's cheap).
The award for the cleanest and most air tight facility I've seen would have gone to the plant north of West Memphis, Arkansas. That place was amazing... and they used quality blank discs, too.

In all seriousness, if he’s gotten better with the AI and it turns out more like Titanic or The Abyss, I’d be okay with it— not ecstatic, but ok. What would make it or break it for me is if it included the mono mix. But it’s a grainy movie, so if it’s as heavy handed in the processing as Aliens, I’m definitely out.

I really cannot take the AI cheerleader posts seriously, I'm starting to see them in every JC thread, even True Lies which is the worst looking disc from what most people say. Finally, it’s ARRIVED! Can’t believe it’s actual here after all these years!

Checked it out this afternoon and it’s a good transfer. Lots of detail but there’s something weird about skin textures. Looks like DNR has been applied. I maybe wrong. Did this get the A.I treatment aswell? I hadn’t seen the transfer till now as we have not got it on digital or 4K disc over here in the U.K. But overall very happy as finally we now have a decent format to watch the film on. Haven’t watched it in years as the dvd wasn’t good enough. Pleased with the extras aswell. Cameron even gave time to be interviewed.

Never thought I’d see the day it was released in HD let alone 4K. But I’m glad I was able to import it as we’ll probably will never see this released in the U.K.

Yes it's had the A.I. treatment. It's not as bad as Aliens and True Lies. Definitely watchable.

Watched it today, I'd say it's a very good remaster. There are scenes where faces look a bit plasticky, but there are also many close-ups where faces have amazing detail. A bit uneven on that front, but the rest of the image looks great. I like grain in 4K, but I'm not a purist, and there's definitely a ton of detail here.

I don't think I've actually seen this movie before. Very enjoyable, great atmosphere. The special edition did seem to drag on a bit, I probably should've watched the theatrical cut first. But overall a very solid 8/10.

mine arrived today a day earlier than expected!!..I am ripping a back up and will watch the disc a little later. Aliens failed to back up so here's hoping the Abyss is problem free.

My neighbor is calling it "Picnic at Hanging Abyss" Maybe a tad dramatic.

It's definitely not DNR. It's weirder than that, and much more sporadic. Unlike a blanket DNR application, people occasionally, randomly start to look like rubbery plastic, rather than the traditional waxy, relentless repugnance of DNR. Neither is particularly appealing, however. I don't love how The Abyss looks, but it's generally serviceable if I sit one row further back in my theater room, and when I start to roll eyes at it, I threaten myself back in line with the notion of putting the dvd back in my oppo. Then it starts looking a little better again.

At least it's better than the non-anamorphic antiquated DVD, but that's not saying a whole lot.

Watched some of it the other night, it looks really good. There is definitely some DNR/AI going on with skin in some scenes, but by-and-large much better than T2’s transfer

Watching the SE on my Panny 820, mine pixelates a bit during the Bud/Coffey fight, but the worse thing is the sound goes wildly out of sync. I stopped the disc, advanced to the next chapter, and it played flawlessly to the end. Not optimal but I’ll live.

About the sticker on the slipcover, is an hairdryer not a solution to remove the sticker without damaging the slipcover? I heared long time ago that this is a good solution. Did somebody tried it?
