It depends on the cloth, I find the ones used for eyeglasses just move the stuff around and leave a film instead.

I have one which does remove the gunk but it leaves tiny fibers behind.

I've just found out the 4K is not being released in the UK
Annoying. I guess I'll have to buy the 4K from the States. Hopefully, it's region-free.
And the reason is the classification of the rat dipping scene. Is the rat scene uncut in the US version?

All this fuss over one scene. I've actually seen two versions;
1. A cage is put on the rat and the rat is lowered into the fluid and then drained afterwards.
2. The entire thing is cut and you just see the rat's owner's reaction to the rat being dipped in the fluid.

No UK release because of one scene is absurd.

Relax, it is!
Bought my disc via WowHD UK and it works perficky in my region B Panny UB9000!
If you wait a couple of weeks, you could also get the German release, which will also be uncut! The latter may also be the cheaper option...

Yes, the US version is uncut as is the rest of the world. Cameron refused to release it in the UK because they wanted to cut it.

I've had some microfiber cloths that indeed don't seem to do much to clean my glasses other than smudge them more, but I have a couple favorites that do a great job of it without leaving anything behind. But I don't know where I got them from so I can't buy more like that.

In general I've found the microfiber cloths I have work well for discs even when they're not great for glasses.

On youtube midlevelmedia says there are people claiming to have received scratched unplayable discs because this three disc set is in a 2 disc case. Given how cheap 4k players are, would people really care if the included blu-ray edition of the movie was excluded?

I've bought US version. Probably £20 more expensive but at least I get to see it right away.

Edit: Yep. The French version is 29 Euros about £20 cheaper.

Was about to post this. This is easily the best of the Cameron 4K's, even though it's still DNR'd and some shots are just wax city and has the typical James Cameron Teal Filter applied that almost completely kills the pinks and purples that make up the color scheme of the last half of the movie.

I love that you can still see the matte lines during the the giant wave scene on the bridge. The AI just brought out the harsh line even more lol

AFAIK they don't ship anywhere else apart from North America, haven't done since the pandemic.

So you went to your friendly neighbourhood scalper? €50-ish is waaaaaay too much money, even for the bestest UHD of the bunch, which has a good chance of arriving scratched anyway.

my suggestion use the 3FREE ship code to a US forwarder For X amount of titles and use said forwarder to ship to you

Isn't that weird and amazing and mind boggling and absurd that The Abyss, a movie that's been pretty forgotten I think, is the only one that got a fresh 4K scan and true HDR grade?
