Blu-ray Grand Duke

Another victim of Disney's disc-stacking bullshit here. Miraculously the radial scratch only causes a 5-second jump-forward during the scene right at the end where the rising ship reaches the rig and floods it with light. Bloody annoying but I can't be arsed returning it then risking the same bullshit happening when they inevitably reprint it with the exact same garbage packaging. If anything I'll wait and see if Disney goes back to distributing discs in Australasia and releases a 4K-only version. In the meantime, the BD will do if I don't feel like tolerating that missing 5 seconds

It's fine if Blu Ray got a standalone release but if not then I want the combo. With that said, I hate when these companies cheap out with stacked disks and have had some bad experiences with them. As someone who doesn't do 4K,I care a big deal about a Blu Ray version of the film. I'm still pissed off there is no way of watching the Rocky Vs Drago cut of Rocky IV other then 4K disk. Blu Ray users are *bleep* out of luck. I would be pretty furious if The Abyss and True Lies got a 4K disk release but didn't get a Blu Ray one. It's one thing if a catalog title has gotten a previous Blu Ray release and it's being given a 4K release and isn't including a BD disk. I love that Scream Factory does combos(and remaster/upgrade the BD disk in 4K too) and have taken advantage of this to get films I didn't have beyond VHS or at all. But I get why more studios like WB have dropped the BD combo that already has a BD release. It's annoying especially when it's hard to hunt down the older BD release but I get it. But for them to just skip a Blu Ray release for The Abyss and True Lies that have never gotten these films released in this format in the U.S. or at all would really be scummy IMO.It was scummy when WB did it with the Rocky Vs Drago cut of Rocky IV and it would be scummy if Disney did that sort of thing with these two films (Aliens and Titanic have been released on BD more then once so I could understand not doing a new BD release with those). The Abyss and True Lies needed BD releases either as standalone releases or as a combo with the 4K disks. Disney went with the latter and sucky stacked disk packaging aside, I'm glad to have them on BD. |

I don't have a 4K setup, only a TV. Sucks to hear that some folks are having issues with the 4K disc due to unneeded scratches. I noticed very little scratches on the former and Blu-ray disc, if anything, the bonus disc has the most scratches.
Played the Blu-ray twice with zero issues, thankfully. |

For Aliens there are caps to look at and compare but it’s best seeing all for yourself so you can decide. |

Plus, I really dislike all the issues I'm hearing about with the UHD discs, versus standard Blu-ray, which I'm still very content with. I have no plans to get UHD. Blu-ray is is the final physical format for me. |

the UHDs of Black Hawk Down, Southern Comfort, True Romance, Starship Troopers, eXistenZ (to name only a few) blow their bluray counterparts out of the water, I shit you not! Last edited by Rollo Tomassi; 03-30-2024 at 04:34 PM. |

My initiation to upgrade my setup to 4K were the rather crappy blus of Black Hawk Down, Scarface and last, not least, The Big Lebowski. Somewhere on this forum I read a user's phrase of "an upgrade of Lebowskian proportions". Lebowski is definitely a textbook example for a glorious 4K upgrade over the DNRed, edge enhancencement plagued, old blu master. Yikes!
https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=2&x...4&l=1&i=9&go=1 Of course, Die Hard and Predator are essential upgrades, as well! ![]() Last edited by Rollo Tomassi; 03-30-2024 at 03:22 PM. |

Got my copy of this one with circumferential scratches on the UHD but clean copies of the BDs. Amazon only offering a return. What to do here? I could send it back for refund and order later, and then end up with multiple scratched discs.
I could order elsewhere and end up with worse, and not have an exchange option AT ALL. |
