Ouch! Haha

I think we can get past the Clippers. It may end after that series though. Let’s see!

Good to see The Abyss back in stock at Wowhd, and even better, it coincides with a multi buy voucher, so glad to be able to stick an order in for it.
Didn’t preorder it for some reason, so have had to wait for a while due to the limited stock (and I certainly wasn’t prepared to pay the silly scalper prices that were undoubtedly floating around out there).

Would European folks be better to order a copy from our shores in the hope of avoiding the disc scratching issues?

I just put in an order there, not holding my breath it won’t be another dodgy uhd disc copy, but we live in hope. If it wasn’t a pretty great release aside the various mastering quality issues I wouldn’t try again.

Nor me, funnily enough you can’t order Abyss US from Amazon UK right now nor does which vendor you buy it from actually make any difference whatsoever whether you get a badly manufactured / packed copy of The Abyss as the discs are still stacked wherever you buy it from.

Just happy it doesn’t interrupt the movie anymore.
Oh that’ll be ok-ish. Still crap, but better.

See Phil's answer. Most European stuff (and indeed Paramount's newer disc product in general, if you wondered why their US releases rarely get complaints about scratched discs) is still replicated at places that don't drag the discs across the floor as part of their QC process.

My Italian Abyss has shipped and I fully expect the discs to be pristine. Thankfully my US copy, as scratched and marked as it is, played perfickly fine until that exact spot in the credits as mentioned.

I never watch the credits, although I should…look what you miss like in Ferris Bueller!

The credits are all part of it for me, I always let them roll to the end.

Ordered mine from Amazon Spain using a Ł10 voucher posted in the UK general deals thread. Ł16.72 delivered, very agreeable.

Does that still work since you’re not in the EU? Or does it cost more?

Just watched Unforgiven this morning. Abyss certainly deserved better dialog, but as William Muny said, “ deserves got nothing to do with it!”

In the colonies we were told that you would have a hard time getting things from the EU or they would be more expensive. I assumed that never happened?

A lot of things have been made more difficult but it's more at the macro level i.e. for businesses where all that red tape is hurting things. At the micro i.e. consumer level there have been some changes for personal importing but, ironically enough, they were meant to be put in place before the B word and is something that the EU wanted to simultaneously adopt anyway (and did so a few months later). Basically we have to pay sales tax at the point of sale rather than having it be collected by customs after the fact, so buying from all the European amazons is still as easy as a click away. I buy a lot of stuff from Amazons .es and .it in particular as they have a lot of excellent pricing, often have UHD titles that aren't released over here at all and delivery only takes a few days at most.

Adding to this... I was in Belgium until about a year ago, and while there, ordering anything on Amazon (insert country code here) was insanely expensive for many items, because of the B word. Items would be taxed from Germany, to be sent to Belgium. Even if the item was shipped from just 130km from where I lived.
Now that I'm in Germany, I have noticed that many items aren't so expensive with the add-on taxes and prices, because well... it's complicated. But I will say that Germany plays nicer with Italy, Spain, the UK, and other nearby locations that Belgium was capable of doing. Simply from the perspective of ordering through Amazon.
(There are other examples, but I'll just stick with Amazon.)

Aye, it's just from the Amazon perspective I'm commenting on, as other retailers that don't want to collect the tax would've had to stop shipping to the UK full stop. But Amazon transitioned to it so smoothly (mostly) because they had already started collecting the tax at point of sale (the 'import fees deposit') a year or two before, just because they wanted to. (But remember, that sales tax thing had absolutely nothing to do with the B word, the UK and EU both wanted to reform the personal importation system to ensure they could rake in the tax on said imports).

With the stacked discs, you would think they would at least put the 4K disc by itself.
