Damn. I haven't started hardcore collecting 4Ks yet, (no money) but these 4K releases have taught me to do research before I buy an old film released in 4K.

Don't pay attention to these guys. Most 4ks are amazing. Just stay away from Cameron remasters if you are concerned about the film grain preservation and AI enhancements. Everything else looks great. Don't let these guys scare you.

You can read many negative reviews for a particular release but may end up pleasantly surprised when you see it on your 4k screen but you ll be disappointed if you watch the movie just to pick flaws or constantly pressing remote button for details and bit rate drops. Good luck.

Got my copy today. I don't care for slipcovers but this slip is so beautiful. "The Abyss" on the slip is embossed or textured and the slip has a nice shiny glossy type of effect. Thought to mention for slipcover enthusiasts.

I wouldn't tell someone with limited funds not to do research before buying. $30-40 (or more) per movie is a lot for most people. Worth doing a little research, even just briefly checking in forums like this, so that you have at least some idea of what you're getting as a customer. Just my two cents.

And while many 4Ks are great it isn't a given that they're great. The quality & effort varies wildly, by movie and by vendor.

Wanted to buy this when it first came out but many people indicated the stacked and scratched disc issues and problems with playback, which scares me off for a while.

Have they fixed the stacking issue and is the 4K disc now on it's own? If so, has the same been done to any of the other Cameron releases?

Don't sweat that stuff too much.

No stacking with Titanic and True Lies by the way.
And Aliens and the Abyss no problemo for me, and for a whole bunch more.
But then, in Canada we have different problems...like inflation for example.
Very expensive those 4K Blus. It's like somebody wants our money very very bad...extortion.

I was wondering what the source of the stereo track was myself since I like to take original LD mixes and run them through a process to decode the Dolby matrixed surround into a 5.1 audio track for my plex server. I won't be doing that for a while though because my surround sound setup is currently out of commission (I watched the movie a couple nights ago on my PC with some headphones). Though I might try to seek out a rip of the LD audio because I'm not too fond of the brick walling that's present in the DTS MA stereo track.

Kindly re read my post. I didn't say to OP to not research before buying. As hobbyists we all do research before buying something. What I told him to not get scared to much of the fake hype and fear created here by EXPERT users. It's always a good idea to do some research and take informed decision but not a good idea to put off any release just because of negative user reviews or negative reviews by a same set of people I should say.
