I redeemed in Vudu/FAH, and both versions are on there, but the special edition is under 'Bonus Features'. I checked my Movies Anywhere account and both versions are on there as well. I didn't confirm if either site has the special edition in 4K; they do have 4K restoration credits at the end, but I know that does not indicate if is actually a 4K version.

This is interesting, because I was about to redeem my code in Movies Anywhere (haven't actually redeemed) and it shows 'Sign in to redeem: The Abyss, 2h 20m'. No mention of both versions and 2h 20min refers only to the Theatrical version. I'd hate to redeem here and find out I should have redeemed elsewhere for both.
The code technically only redeems the theatrical version. This is the version in which you have digital rights too. The special edition is part of the extras, but extras could easily be pulled if the studios decide to do so.

As mentioned, the SE cut in the TC extras on Vudu is 4K, HD on iTunes and I forget if MA is, believe its hd also, assuming you have 4k rights for TC listing.

Thanks for the comments, Guys!
I just redeemed in MA and when I look in FAH, I see the Special Edition along with some other special features. I am SO STOKED. I loved this film when I was a kid but haven't seen it in decades! Can't wait to watch with my family !

$38.99 USD on Amazon is insane to me. Was it cheaper upon initial release?

When you could still buy them through the now defunct Disney Movie Club, all three of these Cameron 4K titles were just $11.98 each if you bought at least one title that the club offered at their regular (typically MSRP) price.

Ah, yes! Who could forget DMC's creative pricing. They were actually about $24-$25 + "handling" and tax each since you had to factor in the full priced disc purchase requirement.

There were no "handling" or shipping charges on my orders.

When I used the Disney Movie Club, I placed large orders for 10-20 titles where I only paid regular price for one title and the rest were all 60% off. It worked out to being a really great deal.

I just finished watching the special edition. This was my first time seeing the movie and I gotta tell you it's fantastic! Cameron has such a way of storytelling and direction that is hard to match. I thought the 4k looked fantastic as well and I watched with the 5.1 mix muxed with the 4k like croweyes did and it sounded great too! Definitely seated in my top favorites.

What is actually going on with this one? Walmart doesn’t have it, DeepDisount is backordered, Amazon seems to be the only place to get it at $38.

If I had to guess its because of the new Disney/Sony deal I'm sure it'll come in stock again soon at a lower price. I actually caved and bought all 3 of the Cameron's on eBay. There was no other way to get all 3 of them on Amazon at the time.

Default Better pricing anytime soon?

Does anyone know if we can expect to see better pricing ($37.99 currently on Amazon) for the Abyss on Amazon Prime Day?? Amazon is currently offering their 3-for-2 deal and when I add Quigley Down Under 4K and the Starship Troopers 4K Steelbook, it's not a bad deal but I'm wondering if we can expect really crazy good prices on Prime Day?? I know The Abyss is a Buena Vista (Disney) title so I'm not sure if the price will go super low given how Disney tends to keep their physical media titles on the higher side. Thanks for any input.

Yes, the price will be different.

Actually, no it won't.

Actually, no one can tell you this.

Actually, something can tell you this.

It's not just Amazon that raised the price, every retailer that has it in stock has as well. Seems to have come from higher up. It's weird for sure.

I finally got around to watching it recently and it's alright i guess. It's way too inconsistent to me, so there's no way im getting the other Cameron 4ks if this is by far the best one.

Oh, if you were unnerved by this release, stay far far away from ALIENS. As far as you're concerned, TRUE LIES was never released on 4k. Just... don't go near it.

Do I remember right that there is an audio mix error that was being discussed months ago?
