This probably doesn't help but I bought it from DVDStoreSpain last month and it came without a slip.

So did mine, but it came with a slip. I did pre-order it, so possibly a question of initial stock.

Got my copy from Amazon on Friday and it had the slip. I thought the movie looked and sounded great. Definitely a lack of grain but it didn't feel artificial to us.

Finally watched this. Went with the SE since I watched the theatrical on Amazon not too long ago. I was kind of disappointed in the compression, especially when objects are moving through the water (the sub) or any bright lights (the aliens). You get this pulsating effect, like it's ready to break up into blockiness. The stream was worse, I'm sure.

It's a bit untidy in those areas but it looks more like grain congregating in the brighter areas like the lights underwater, it's not amazing but it's still betterer compression than the shit that other studios churn out.

Definitely better than The Core UHD's underwater scenes for sure.

The Abyss has suddenly popped up on ITVX in the UK, where it’s available to stream for free.

It appears to be the remastered version but with the rat scene removed.

Just JC is only against it getting a censored release when it comes to the 4K UHD version.

Not sure if Cameroon's entirely to blame, I think it's a bit of both: Disnee couldn't be arsed to produce a cut BD and UHD just for the UK, and he's like 'alrighty then'. But a TV master ain't the same thing, so just delete the rat scene and you're good to go.

The rat scene was reframed on the DVD and it didn't look too bad

Reframe = Rearranging previous footage to cover offending footage, without altering the flow of the film's soundtrack?

Getting Censorsous eh, Junior (@Indiana Jones)? with your lifelines [i.e. Cinematograph (Films) Animals Act 1937 and Protection of Children's Act 1978]

I say "Uncut and Uncensored, time infinity." (Hats off to Jim Cameron of withdrawing UK release to avoid obeying UK Film Censorship)

I'm not for censorship, but I'm also not for a living creature being tortured for the sake of a movie.

They really couldn't have done this scene without a little fake rat?

Default Not for a living creature being tortured for the sake of a movie = Censorship

I don't think so (though I'm not sure about an animatronic rat would have worked though) In terms of 1988-1989's production? The damage had been done.

...Unharmed.

Aftermath: On July 1989, Beany the Rat Passed from natural causes (unrelated to breathing liquid), I bet you're aware of it?

Nevertheless, any form of film censorship (including cuts to the OCN is risky [and loses are as great as antique pottery])
That's my personal opinion.

Wanna go uncut your way? Then stick to films without any complaints from the UK law (C[F]AA 1937 and POCA 1978) first place and passed intact by the BBFC (or a least see how a stuntman's life was put in harm's way by director Michael Winner).

I still find it hilarious the rat scene was censored over there. It was a pivotal plot point and it's not like they killed the thing either on screen or off. It's not exactly Cannibal Holocaust. If I were that rat I'd be pissed I got cut out after what I went through.
