Alas, no.

The other two were nodding in agreement, while it seems as though BH was not fully onboard and was perhaps biting his tongue but ultimately did not refute that assertion.

The T2 4K wax-fest debacle and the terrible AI-upscaling used on the Avatar 4K release left many of us with absolute dread for the horrors that might be done to the upcoming 4K versions of three of our all-time favorite action-adventure films.

And then the over-smoothed and poorly compressed YouTube trailer for The Abyss 4K came out and stoked our fears even higher!

But after downloading and watching the 2GB ProRes trailer for The Abyss (which has some compression issues of its own), almost all of my worst fears were put to rest. To my eyes, the transfer looks really good, and it will look significantly better once it's on a 100GB 4K disc. And I'd be really surprised if the Aliens 4K and True Lies 4K transfers weren't also at the same high level of quality.

Wasn't today the day they were taking pre-orders for this and True Lies?

Got my tickets in Dolby Cinema. The screening is about 25% full, so I don't doubt it will sell out. It's just the one screening on one day. Should be epic. I used my A-List, so it's free.

Looking forward to this release that's been 23 years in the making...

The irony is that this will be a non-anamorphic release, given the UHD/Blu-ray standards, replacing the original non-anamorphic DVD.

24 dollars for a film ticket? Just one? I know it's AMC and Dolby Cinema, but what the hell? Is this standard prices in the US?

In Seoul, when BR2049 came out on their newly-renovated IMAX screen (now the biggest in the world that is in active use, or was in 2017), a ticket cost about $15 (17,000 won).
I can see it being that much in the states.
Maybe it's one of those Golden Ticket things, where they have couches and stuff. IDK.
I haven't been to the theater since... Captain Marvel or something lol

I understand that premium screens means premium, but paying for a one time viewing, the same price as a disc (not counting UHD) that you can watch thousand times..

Here, my theater is amazing, and the most costly ticket, for 1 person, is 7 or 8 euros, and for that it must be an Atmos or 4K screening or VIP or whatever. And the ''premium'' price is just 1 more euro. But I understand our theater isn't IMAX premium or Dolby Cinema premium. And probably thank god if it's going to be this pricey.

That price is after tax and online advanced ticketing fee. But yes, it’s still kind of nuts.

Someone has to subsidize the subscriptions. At AMC, you can see three shows a week for a $20-25 /month subscription, including premium screens. Also, they have discount days every Tuesday, where normal tickets are ~$5, and premium a few dollar premium over that. Would I prefer they just charge a reasonable price for every show and got rid of subscriptions and discount Tuesdays? Probably. But also, overall if you play the game and see lots of $5 discount shows and the occasional $20-25 large format show, it’s aight.

A Dolby Cinema ticket here in NYC for The Abyss is $29.49. I have AMC A-List however, so I'm not paying that.

Damn $30? I've seen films in NYC before but the difference was never that drastic from NJ.

It will vary, but premium non-matinee showtimes are around that range for AMC. Matinee pricing is around $24. One premium screening more or less covers the monthly price for AMC A-List lol.

At those prices, why not wait a few days and get the digital version?
