$18 per ticket here, which is not terrible for an evening special showing for this specific theater setup. "PlatinumX!!!"

Normally I would not bother at such a price but this is an unique experience in which I have never seen the SE screened in the theater and with purportedly LASERS!>!>!>! projection, as well hopefully Atmos sound.

I saw this originally in the theater when it was released but this time I get to watch it in a recliner, rather than those old school uncomfortable theater seats.

After taxes and fees, tickets in Jersey are $28.98
In NYC, they are $32.18

$24 for Dolby Cinema in my area. I don't know the thought process behind releasing this film as a one-day only on a Wednesday night. I would think doing a Wednesday night only screening wouldn't make as much revenue as a Friday night. Having it run for more than one day would also be good for revenue as well. Don't think I can make it to this one, sadly

Doesn't look like it's playing near me. unless it gets announced later. But theater here rarely gets older movies anymore... I would have went in a second. Seeing this on a big screen would be something else....

Yup. 800T had a relatively short 6 year stint from 98-04 but was very grainy. I believe it was abandoned due to 500T exhibiting less grain and better colour when rated at 1000 ASA. Colour film exceeding 400/500 speed are pretty much unheard of for motion picture film.

Even with photographic film, 800 speed is really the upper limit. There were a few 1600 speed colour film stocks that basically performed the same as 800 speed when pushed by a stop.

The funny thing is film speed isn't everything. 200T is actually sharper than 50D, even though it's 2 stops faster.

I’m real glad it’s only playing in Dolby Cinema locally.

I really hate the fact the showing is at 6pm and that means I have to deal with rush hour traffic to get to said theater in the middle of town.

Eh, I'd at least like the option. If I were one to see many movies, obviously depending on availability, the "lesser" options are still there. (Many in my area still use the basic theaters and don't see new releases in our local IMAX) We have a few boutique local theaters attached to micro-brews and cocktail lounges that some go to as well over the "premium" option... but the audio/visual experience just causes me pain there, so I avoid those. lol

Just over $16 in mine. They opted not to put it in the single lie-MAX (ahem, IMAX) we have in this area, opting for the only other PLF available, "BigD." (Smaller chain that AMC bought) I don't pay that with the $20 a month sub for 3 movies a week. Even two IMAX showings more than makes up for that. (no stupid online fees either with that if I buy tickets for friends)

Sadly, the closest Dolby Cinema to me is 550 miles away. Not exactly a day-trip. (unlike my local IMAX, at least these larger population centers are showing the Abyss on the best format they have though)

Back in the good old days, it cost me just 75 pence to see Blade Runner in the cinema (that's about $1.30 for my America buddies). And it was continuous screening back in those days so I could stay in there and watch it twice. Those were the days.

Yeah, man all night I was trying and then they finally go live at noon of all times and by the time I tried again after 2PM all the good seats already gone, theater already jam packed.

Crazy, theaters here are jammed and as I said my local Dolby Cinema sold all the ideal seats in less than a couple hours. And this is not big city, it's all suburbs too.

Umm you seem to be thinking of the modern digital world where setting ISO500 would be nothing, but 500 is pretty fast for film. 50/64 are slow, 100 normal, 200 fast normal, 400 getting fast, 500 fast, 800 very fast, 1600+ insane. Before T 400 would already generally be pretty grainy and 800 would be grain up the wazoo. Yeah on a DSLR with a good sensor ISO400/500 is nothing and under good conditions can look almost the same as ISO100, but this is not that.

Lincolnc Square IMAX (and now also DC) have been mega pricey, way more than most in NJ for a long time. I think I've even seen $35 for IMAX there.

Paramus, NJ is pretty expensive too.

Well maybe if you are one of those with the 55-100 foot wide home theater screen with laser projector (and slews of seats and peeps for when you want a nice audience reaction as well)....

I'm so disappointed that it isn't showing anywhere near me for up to 50 miles. I live in Sacramento and I can't believe 1 theater isn't showing it. Oh well, guess I'll watch it when the 4K comes out. Really wanted to see it in theaters though.

I got my tech jargon wrong, I thought of 50D and co as fast stocks when it's the opposite, whoops.

So what happened to the preorder? Wasn't it supposed to go up on the 20th?

Bill Hunt reports on X that that date only applies to the new Avatar 4k versions and not for The Abyss, Aliens and True Lies.
Apparently the pre-order date for those will be announced at a later date.

Quote:
Heads up @thedigitalbits readers: The 11/20 preorder start listed on the Cameron 4K press release apparently only pertains to AVATAR: CE and AVATAR 2: CE. The other title preorders will follow at a later date. That's an update per Disney today.

I wasn't going to double dip for the original Avatar again but it has the slightly longer cut so I'm in. I missed that tidbit initially.
