Ok good, that means they did retain the sped up credits, a DVD error that was corrected

The DVD's theatrical cut had the slowed down and regular sized credits the special edition has (resulting in a 145 minute runtime), though obviously edited to remove the credits to people uniquely featured in the special edition

Spot-checked the SE. It's good in spots, smooth in others. Not nearly as bad as True Lies. The end shots with the wave are composited poorly, and I really wish that goof on the beach was removed.

It seems like whatever they're using for processing smooths out faces that are farther away from the camera for some reason.

I waited so long for a good version of this movie and Cameron has ruined it with his blanket teal tint fetish and disgusting DNR and AI sharpening. Him and Peter Jackson are enemies of film and I have lost all respect for them.

There are plenty of non-official options if you don't like this one. As with Star Wars, at least there are plenty of WAYS to watch if you know what I'm sayin'. Speaking for myself, though? I've scoured over this film for YEARS, and speaking as the guy who made SEHD v2.1, this is now the best way to watch the film IMHO. It is perfect? No. But I won't be going back myself.

I can say the same for True Lies, the 4K version is the best it's ever looked despite some flaws

No it really is not and to reply to the other guy it should not be on the fans to make presentable versions of these huge beloved movies. James Cameron could have done these properly and there is already a better looking transfer of the theatrical cut of Abyss even with the blanket teal tint but instead he put out a worse transfer with terrible AI upscaling.

No one's forcing you to buy it. Agreed it shouldn't be on the fans, but sometimes it is. I made the best version to watch up to this point. If you want to watch that, I sure won't stop you.

No you should not accept that. This is about preservation and these movies need to be preserved in at least good quality. DNR, tealing, sharpening and AI upscaling is not acceptable.

It isn't that I accept it...but it is what it is. What am I supposed to do? Storm the studio with my torch and pitchfork and demand a copy with more film grain? If you just want the movie preserved, the fact is that it IS preserved, just as Star Wars has been. You may not like the channels you have to go down to find it, but it's not being lost forever. Anyway...

This only means that for the first time in over 30 f-ckin years, the fully 100% intact special edition has been made available again and for the first time in over 33 f-ckin years the fully 100% intact theatrical cut has been made available again (not counting the Cinemax broadcasts)

Disney's QC department has really done wonders, it's too bad the other studios are lacking in this department

Let's just pray the disk version retains these corrections

Yeah, everyone else can complain all freakin' day about grain structure. I am positively freakin' ECSTATIC right now. I mean I'm honestly kind of in shock...

I just hope these audio fixes make their way to the physical version and I will be on cloud nine.

I have to believe that some were never buying this new release to begin with. They are here to complain for the sake of... well... complaining. This is by far my favorite Cameron film and I couldn't be happier w/ how it turned out.

No there needs to be a 4k negative scan with no DNR and with the original timing. That is what a preservation should be and we should let our voices be heard instead of bending over and taking it while making up excuses.

There is that non-anamorphic DVD some speak so highly of...

Again, I'm not sure what you're proposing to do about it but getting upset with other members here.

Contact the studio if you can. Or reach out to people who CAN contact the studio. Start a petition (I'll happily sign it, as I'm sure many others here would). Write a letter. Reach out to JC yourself. Record a YouTube video detailing your concerns and try and get it to go viral. Tweet it out and see if others latch on to your cause.

I contacted the studio about the audio issues I noted during the theatrical screening and *they got fixed*. It can and does work. But DO something. Posting here about how we're all part of the problem for not hating this release with the same intensity as you do is the very definition of pissing against the wind.
