I need a second set of eyes on this because I'm forming a theory.

Look at the shot of Bud after the line "Let's get the wellhead uncoupled, shall we?" (SE 12:17)

His head moves away from the camera a bit and then back. You can almost see some kind of bizarre "threshold" where the algorithm kicks in the further back his head goes, and when it comes back, the algorithm backs off.

This is just flat-out wrong.

The Abyss has ALWAYS had MANY teal scenes in it. It’s one of the most abundant colors in the film, and it always has been. It’s just an incredibly blue (and shades of blue, green, and blue/green) film. I’ve been analyzing this particular film for literally decades. SEHD itself had color grades on top of color grades to more closely match earlier versions and colors within scenes.

Are you actually arguing that the color teal itself was somehow not invented until the 1990’s? Saying that “no movie from 1989” should have ANY teal in it whatsoever is just…look, watch what you want, like what you want and dislike what you don’t. I’m honestly not here to argue with you. But to say that THIS movie has never had ANY teal in it…I can’t take that seriously.

No. He was actually looking at Sinéad O'Connor's head.

Maybe what was meant to be said, The movie never had Teal'c in it.... but that would've been interesting.

I also just noticed another audio mistake from the branching DVD that I did NOT mention to the studio but that has ALSO been corrected. It's the additional establishing shot of the NTI ark after the crew deboards Deepcore. On the DVD, you could hear the audio fading between music sources to add that shot, leading to a bar or two being repeated in the audio mix. I thought it was an error introduced on the DVD, but TBH, my memory of that moment on the LD wasn't as clear as the other two issues, so I decided not to bring it up with the other two issues as I wasn't POSITIVE that it was a mistake that hadn't always been there. Turns out, it WAS a mistake with the DVD and it has now been fixed. It was still there in the theatrical showing last week but has now been corrected. Man, this makes me very, very happy.

There should be NO teal in a movie from 1989 and teal is only something Cameron started using since his revisionist Aliens BD. It should be blue not teal same with T2 and all the rest.
Whatever else the disc does or doesn't do well, I keep seeing this idea that "teal" only came about in Cameron's later career, but Titanic's 35mm print had clear examples of a strong teal tint throughout.

Well that makes sense since teal was invented in 1996 a year before Titanic came out.

The grabs I see all look teal and unnatural. I think anybody trying to convince themselves that any of these remasters are faithful aren't being real with themselves.

If it's not from the Hollywood section of California, it's sparkling blue-green.

Not every scene on The Abyss is teal. Then again, I’m watching the whole thing and not just looking at screenshots. I do wish more screens would be posted of the other non-teal scenes, because there are many of them.

Anyway, I’m happy. If others aren’t, I’m sorry to hear it, truly.

The only thing that I could see some complaining about is the SE footage towards the end. One scene in particular, but that would be nitpicking, when up until that point it was a visual feast for the eyes.

I take back everything I said. I mean, maybe this is a *bit* extreme...

EDIT: Guys…c’mon…this is a joke. I REALLY thought that went without saying. Forgot where I was.
