The faces still don't look like faces of actual humans, they just aren't as bad as the others. The color reminds me of when I would come home and my roommate was sitting on the couch drooling with the needle hanging in his arm.

I don't know about film-like, but it looks the best of the bunch. The manipulation seems more straight forward and measured compared to the others. Though still unnecessary and detrimental.

It's probably because this movie is playing in theatres, so he might have participated a bit more in the restoring. I guess the other movies he just gave thumbs up.

I think both Aliens and the Abyss look incredibly similar in terms of the restoration work, but funnily enough because we haven't seen The Abyss looking good in so long we're much more forgiving on it is my guess.

This is my theory as well. Because this was going to play theatrical and it’s got water in it he made sure they did a new scan and put the work in. Whereas the others just got reheated ten year old masters run through AI
