True. But even zoomed in a little, due to its non-anamorphic presentation, it looked pretty decent to me. I'll probably even watch the SE tomorrow.

Of course the aliens are not a MacGuffin or a Deus Ex Machina at all; the aliens are threatening to destroy the Earth and "start it all over from scratch again" but spare the planet because if one husband and wife fighting can reconcile then there's still hope for humanity. Its a 1:1 direct correlation.

It's full of crises and set-pieces, but is it really just about an estranged couple that find each other again, under water, with the help of some aliens? Aliens that have no bearing on the story otherwise - they are just there. The SE is almost half an hour longer, and I clearly remember liking that version more, back in the day, but I also clearly remember growing tired of it, when I watched it years later, on that same DVD I just saw tonight.

That old DVD is perfectly watchable, by the way, but I'll probably still get the UHD and watch it again next year, and hopefully enjoy the film more.

Good thing the scientists weren't John and Lorena Bobbitt then or humanity would have been f****ed.

It's something I heard a long long time ago that has stuck with me. I find it's fitting to say when someone is so sure of what they are saying, and believes there is not any possibility they could be mistaken.

There is no being "mistaken" in matters of taste though which is what makes it rather pointless when used in this context, it's why the same 'discussion' is going around and around and around from the same people with no end in sight. But hey, I'm sure it sounded good at the time.

I think visible film grain is a defect.

I don't identify with the way James Cameron adds AI to his films if it destroys texture (replacing texture with new texture is also destructive).

There is only one phrase that accurately describes varying versions of 'The Abyss' being available in differing qualities on different streaming services. A gigantic cluster F.

The SE in 4K over here, but not in the other places. The SE in HD over there and over there, but not in this other place. No SE at all in some places. Some transfer via Movies Anywhere, others do not.

Pathetic marketing. I'll not have any part of it and I certainly won't be buying a film from Amazon Prime in ANY circumstance. Prime is the LEAST reliable of all of the streaming services we use.

Come on March, hurry up and get here! I sure hope the 4K Blu-ray release of 'The Abyss' isn't as cluster f'd as the digital release.

Well I'm sure we won't have to worry about some retailers offering the theatrical version only

It did actually, it still sounds good. but like you said it's a matter of taste.

Right, so are you SURE of this trueness of this quote? If you are, then you contradict its main premise. If you doubt it (which the quote itself requires) then you would be wise. In other words, its wise for us to doubt your quote here

Yes, and good thing Coffee wasn't O.J. Simpson otherwise that crew all would've probably woke up dead in the morning, etc.

Gabe Newell on piracy: "We think there is a fundamental misconception about piracy. Piracy is almost always a service problem and not a pricing problem," he said. "If a pirate offers a product anywhere in the world, 24 x 7, purchasable from the convenience of your personal computer, and the legal provider says the product is region-locked, will come to your country 3 months after the US release, and can only be purchased at a brick and mortar store, then the pirate's service is more valuable."

Making the 4k Disc available several months after the digital stream, and making the stream not available in the highest quality in some regions...yeah this is why people just steal it.

You may say the quote is true, but only a fool would believe what he is told - and I am not a fool - therefore I cannot accept the quote as true.
But, you also KNOW that I am not a fool - you would have counted on it - so I can clearly choose to accept the quote as true!

Yes, in the SE.

There's no threat from the NTI's in the theatrical version.
