Yep I think it’s rather silly.

I'd also assume the BBFC's bullshit is also the reason the UK isn't getting the Conan 4K releases. Either way it's an import for me since Disney hates Australasia.

20th Century Studios / Disney own the international rights to Conan in the UK & Europe. Universal owns the rights that were licensed to Arrow Video for that release.

Yeah, same for Australasia. Either way the censorship side of things would be a prohibitive annoyance standing in the way of any possible UK release, whether licensed by Arrow or by Disney themselves (fat chance).

As much as I like that picture, and I have the DVD, BDs, and UHDs, I haven't watched it.

Fox aka Disney have distribution rights to Conan the Barbarian 1982 film outside USA
It’s available on Disney+ in UK/Ireland and other countries that have Star brand with Disney+
Star is Fox Films and TV content
Disney no plans for a 4K release at the moment
They have the HD version of the film available on Disney + since about 2 years ago

USA distribution rights for both 1982 and 1984 films is with Universal that’s why Arrow Video could do USA releases
It was licensed from Universal USA

Conan the Destroyer 1984 was released on Blu-ray in UK with label High Fliers in 2012 and still available to purchase

I honestly never got why the UK censors hate the idea of an animal getting remotely hurt on screen even though other countries have no issue with it

You could just choose to look away during that very quick shot, you have an entire film that's brilliant, there are plenty of movies I do that in, a frog (or something alive) gets cut in half during Double Impact by a street vendor, but I still love the film. Event Horizon has extreme gore in some fast shots that I don't enjoy watching. Getting steeming mad over a rat taking a swim 30 years ago is some extreme first world privilege.

If you are going to disown a film over morality you should go full speed and remove films from your collection where people that worked on the film were convicted of sex abuse or felonies, pretty easy to find out. Or films where a female actress was underaged and sexualized, Kuffs has Christian Slater giving a 15 year old Mila a tongue bath when he was 22 in her underwear. There are a million reason to disown a film why just choose one.

I'm not trying to take the piss with you at all just find these types of things silly. Ratings boards and censorship are horse **** and I don't need a preschool teacher curating my films for me.

I have some hot takes on the animals in Cannibal Holocaust that are not the norm too.

Yeah it’s bizarre because we’ve seen this increase in 4K releases from Disney of late yet they completely abandoned your market. It’s crazy.

Evidently they view this as torturing the animal although the rat doesn’t die so there’s that (although he’s long dead now). The British censors always seemed a bit extreme to me and, yes, American censors also were pretty extreme at one time.

There are far worse things that appeared on the screen. I do have an issue with an animal being killed strictly for the film but the animal wasn’t killed here.

I know another example is the BD set of Roots which still has yet to get a UK release because of one scene featuring cockfighting and there never was a cut version made

I worked on this dvd back in 2004. Sarah Douglas did a commentary track on it. the commentary will be on the new 4k of Conan the destroyer in January.

Funnily enough, both Barbarian and Destroyer were released in Australia by 20th Century Fox (since they also distributed MGM here until recently), so I have them both in a twin-pack. Destroyer seems to be all over the place, different distributor in every damn country. Also the Australian BD release of Barbarian was affected by the BBFC's nonsense, but at least there's an easy workaround since it's the older master, not the fully-censored one. Either way, I import at least 50% of my purchases these days from the US or UK, so The Abyss and Conan are in the same boat for me since if Conan was miraculously released on 4K by Disney, I'd have to import it anyway.

The UK is trying to replicate the US? News to me. If so, where is my guaranteed freedom speech under the First Amendment, that would prevent something like this?
