Ugh, the degraining is unfortunate. Sometimes the incredibly poor Vivendi BD has more detail than the 4K master. I don’t blame 88 for this as they clearly received this ready-made from the studio.

I don't own either but I think I'd still take the UHD since it's not lacking color oversharpened.

yeah, i took a quick look at my disc and grain is clearly reduced, with sluggish movement from start to finish, unfortunately. real shame because the underlying master is very good. i don't know if 88 is not to blame in this case, it's not the first time this is happening. Anthropophagus has been similarly "managed" (on some shots, not on the whole movie), especially comparing their very same old release in bd (which i've kept) where grain is perfect throughout. cannibal holocaust is also managed.

Can’t comment on the releases you mentioned but this is surprising to hear. Maybe they outsourced the restoration to a problematic lab? I’ve always been very pleased with their releases and their new To Kill With Intrigue master looks phenomenal but I don’t know if it was supplied to them by Fortune Star. I’ve ordered American Pie and it’ll be interesting to see how it turned out. Tomorrow I’ll have Project A and the masters were created by 88 if I’m not mistaken.
