Whoever’s doing Lionsgate’s A24 BDs has messed up settings. The same issue affected Past Lives as well and they compressed that film under 25GB despite using a BD-50. Initially I thought the raised blacks were intentional as the film was graded like that but when comparing against the 4K stream, the BD is clearly raised even further. I then got the UK BD from SC and it’s all set properly on that one.

Yeah, it's like it's in the wrong colour space or something. Wonder what the Mubi Blu looks like.

Just gave it a look against the 4K and it looks great. Black levels are appropriately deep without crushing. MUBI’s encode is also fantastic on both formats.

Truly one of the greatest films of all time. Every shot is flawless. We’re very lucky to have this film as it only got made while Guadagnino waited for the production start of Suspiria and he got a creative urge to shoot a film straight away in rapid fashion after previously waiting a long time between projects. He wanted to experience a back-to-back production like Rainer Werner Fassbinder, whose work inspired Suspiria. And since then, he’s never looked back to his previous way of working.

I thought I wouldn't detect a difference playing these side-by-side, but the Vinegar Syndrome release noticeably retains the dye clouds, while they are completely absent on the L'atelier d'images.
