I am surprised by the extra crop on Criterion's release which neither Toho or BFI have and that some shots seem to be softer too. Perhaps, slight edge to BFI, if you are undecided which to purchase, especially if you care about having it in HDR.

PSA: Perhaps it goes without saying, but the video quality we have the privilege to experience today for such important, historical works of art is simply incredible; it's easy to forget that DVD was the highest quality standard for home cinema only ~20 years ago! All that to say, please remember to actually take time to sit down and watch these restored classics at home, especially if you're able to pull your kids away from their devices and poison social media.

These screenshots from the 88 Films version have some strange diagonal lines and other artifacts in the colours. Here are two good examples: https://slow.pics/c/N28lbr31 and https://slow.pics/c/O0tTvJIO - both times, most visible on the actor's cheek. They're not in the Vinegar Syndrome caps.

What's going on there? Does anyone have this disc? I've only heard good things about this transfer but these screenshots are making me question everything I know.
