The 4K of mother has some significant expansion in the highlights vs the BD, or so I thought: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...1#post14620791. The blacks looked a fair bit thinner in the HDR10 version too.

The encoding of the chroma channels looks nice and healthy in the 4K, unlike some Paramount titles I could mention.

The few shots with outside light look significantly better in HDR, a lot less flattened both in terms of brightness and color. Shame the black level varies so much in DV, if it were all raised I could just lower the black level, but now some shots look too crushed if I do that. The black level seems to be less of an issue when running in HDR10.

Does this mean you could post screenshots of these 4K titles?

Yes, that's what I've been trying to say. I intend to do some of them anyway and more and more become "obsolete" (for ex Kick Ass today), but if you'd like to see some caps from a disc from that list, I will "try to" post them (as in: if I find the time to do so) .

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them

I did include some alternative caps this time - 200 being too dark, 200 looking extremely shitty imo, "lost highlights" coming back and to also show (once more) why I prefer 200 nits over 100 nits caps more often than not.

UHD-BD (madVR/SDR/200 nits) left, BD (upscaled) right

Disclaimer as to why the UHD-BD images may appear to be too dim:
[Show spoiler]Please note that the UHD-BD shots have been converted from HDR to SDR using special techniques, which drastically compresses the dynamic range of the original image (the color bit depth has been compressed as well). The UHD-BD shots are therefore not an accurate representation of the original HDR image - dynamic range, colors (tone and intensity) and contrast should be taken with a big pinch of salt and the main focus should be on comparing details. Typically, the image will appear too dark, may lack a certain "pop" and may at times also appear "boosted" when compared to the BD shots. The SDR conversion should still give you a good idea of the actual image of the UHD-BD though and one should also be able to at least catch a glimpse of the increased dynamic range. The BD shots have been upscaled for comparison purposes, but other than that should be accurate. You might also want to check out this post of mine (incl. the further link there) where I tried to show/explain this:

Beasts offers surprisingly little more sharpness for a 4K DI. Looks like 2K.

Same, it looks exceedingly blurry. Three Billboards which I posted a couple of pages back was also shot on Alexa with anamorphic Panavision lenses and it looks better (though I believe there's a touch of sharpening going on there too.)

The huge percentage of VFX shots on Beasts is no doubt partly to blame.

Andreasy or Pyoko,

I'm sure it's not just me, but I'm waiting for the big ones. Die Hard, Braveheart, Gladiator, The Patriot, The Matrix, Jurassic Park 1,2,3. I'm looking forward to them all!! Thanks in advance!

really it's the soundmix (7.1 and Atmos mix) that take center stage over the visuals in my opinion.

Note taken. Would've thought interest in Die Hard, Braveheart and Gladiator would be rather low though, since there are comparisons at caps already. Anyway, all except for Patriot and Matrix are on its way, might do Braveheart anyway (because I love that movie) and intend to at least compare Gladiator with some of caps' Universal caps too.

Would have already done Jurassic Park but unfortunately the disc is still not supported on my system. Like andreasy I will usually only bother for stuff that doesn't already have screenshots posted, and Die Hard, Braveheart and Gladiator are already on caps-a-holic.

Well, I wouldn't object that either, but another Senor Spielbergo had to do this evening.

In that case, could you upload caps from some of the Harry Potter movies (apart from the first two, because they have already been posted)?

The Great Gatsby

Frames should all be accurate, even though it was a little tricky sometimes.

Will be doing "Get Out" next (unless it shows up somewhere else in the meantime), but another Potter is next on my list then. (most likely Azkaban because of OCD and it also being one of my favorite movies)

Get Out

I did include a "not-future-proof" version this time, because people were getting on my nerves again, but I won't be doing this always.
