What's blue on the BD is cyan-green on the UHD. Weird. Maybe due to the conversion, the real world shouldn't look green.
But overall, resolution is mighty impressive. Especially on well-lit wide shots and close-ups. Last edited by OutOfBoose; 05-24-2018 at 07:45 PM. |

The 3D version was intended to be seen in 3D. There was even a promotional video released to tie in with the theatrical reissue of them working on color while wearing 3D glasses.
When you actually watch it in 3D while wearing 3D glasses the colors look a lot better and appear as intended. Watching it in 2D or just looking at screenshots is an entirely different animal. |

Even then, you'd have to have your nose up to the screen to really notice it in motion whereas the grain literally looks dupier on the BD due to the lower resolution and poorer compression, it seems to 'scatter' it more throughout the film.

Braveheart
Some comments again this time, because I love Braveheart and I really love this disc (despite its little warpaint glitch). I think it smashes my beloved Braveheart BD. The caps are at 100 nits since the HDR doesn't appear to be doing much here like others did point out already - some skies still are brighter with slightly more dynamic range for example though. I guess I'm actually glad that Braveheart didn't receive a revisionist HDR treatment. This is just a lovely, filmic presentation, but don't expect any HDR wonders with this one. Other than that, the aliasing is gone (never bothered me, but still glad it's gone), there's plenty more detail to be found here, be that with close-ups or wide shots, and even if there isn't more detail, there's still a lovely fine layer of grain. I also (very much) prefer the colors, I think they are more accurate and mirror what I believe (!) to remember having seen in the theater back then and some scenes just look bad on the BD to me in comparison now (I will also point to one scene in particular - added some comments again). After Braveheart, I really wish Paramount would've done Gladiator themselves (despite Grease, I think it might've fared better), but I'm still glad it's not the other way round. http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/114348 BD (upscaled) left, UHD-BD (madVR/SDR/100 nits) right Disclaimer as to why the UHD-BD images may appear to be too dim: [Show spoiler] ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() good example of the aliasing of the BD being gone: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() blue sky and much more pronounced white warpaint (maybe they even added it here?): ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() the warpaint glitch (which I luckily consider a non-issue when watching the movie on the big screen): ![]() ![]() the one frame where the glitch is basically completely gone since the shadow of the sword happens to cover the problematic area; you can literally see (when stepping through the frames) the glitch partially disappearing as the shadow moves forward into the area (see https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...ostcount=421): ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() the UHD almost "doubles" the rings of the chain mail here or just look at his smeared face on the BD: ![]() ![]() the chasing Wallace in the background being much more defined: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() this whole scene (next two caps) in particular really looks so much better on the UHD, both color and detail wise (the former imho mind you): ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() just look at the lovely texture of the red robe: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by andreasy969; 05-26-2018 at 02:17 PM. Thanks for the caps! The UHD looks gorgeously filmic. Beautiful, just beautiful.

There really is a considerable difference in the colors. Overall, the UHD looks better to my eyes (look at how much the green of the grass is improved in some of those early caps), but I can see something being said for the warmer look of the BD.
